I sat on the back seat of my best friends car. In the dusty window I saw my dark eyes filled with anxiety but excitment as well. It was the excitement that would explod into itselves pieces, or as I call the most brutal phenomenon on earth: unrequited love.
My little 16-year-old heart hadn't been broken yet, but it shouldn't take a long time anymore when it would be. Why? Well, because it was beating for my best friend Maia as fast as if I was running a marathon. The girl I adored now sat in front of me, one hand on the steering-wheel, the other holding a vacuum flask with tea. She was as pretty as usual. As she had picked me up from my parents house I had seen her beautiful face, she was discreetly made up, because, oh well, she was just a natural beauty. We had hugged and for my luck she hadn't recognized my heart jumping around in my chest or my sweaty hands. Why'd she? We were friends since sixth grade, a platonic friendship between two girls. Even if we were both not straight and it did happen multiple times that somebody asked if we were in a relationship, we only laughed and chatted about how weird and absurd that would be. Till it wasn't for me anymore. A year ago I recognized that my feelings had changed. A year full of longing, desperation and the wish that everything should be as in the past had passed.
"Brig?" Her voice took me back to the present. "Sorry, what did you say?", I asked and blushed a bit as she took hold of my eyes through the driving mirror. Her gaze was curious, as if she wanted to know what I had thought about that intensely. A cynical smile appears on my lips. What would she think if she would know? That the one and only I was thinking about was her.
Maia stopped the car. As confused and distracted as I was, I stared out of the car and was suprised as I recognized we already arrived at the huge 02 Arena.
I moved to Englands metropolis years ago, but seeing the huge white building was breathtaking ever and ever again.Maia's mum who had slept on her seat the whole drive, woke up now and asked tiredly: "Did we already arrive? Great. Well, now I can take the car and drive to that awesome art exhibition, can I?" Maia's mum was such a cool one. Without knowing Maia I would think her mum was still in her 20s, doing fancy stuff my mum would never do. Her daughter opened the door, she nodded. "For sure, mum. You're free to do so, as long as you pick us up from the B&B tomorrow." An example for what my mum would never do: Yesterday the holidays had begun and we three will travel to Iceland, an unusual place to travel to, I know, but we three loved that island. My mum never travelled with me, maybe that was the reason I will go abroad after graduation, maybe to Iceland, working on a farm. That was my dream, maybe, hopefully, Maia would joyn me.
I was interrupted in my thoughts. "Brig, let's go! Billie Eilish won't wait for us." I took my backpack, said goodbye to Maia's Mum and opened the door.
The fresh air of the late evening was cold, but I just ignored the fact I was freezing and took a deep breath. "See you, mum!", Maia said to her mum who closed the door and drove away. Maia took my hand and walked fastly to the Arena, I followed her, feeling her warm hand in mine. "Maybe I have still not realized we gonna see Billie Eillish. I can't imagine how you got tickets? They were sold out after seconds." As an answer I only smirked secretly and took a look at my best friend aka crush who walked next to me as we entered the building.Only 30 minutes later we stood in a mass of people, everyone was smiling, a lot wore Merchandise or had drawn something on their cheeks with glitter or that colors that only can be seen in the dark. We both thought how awesome that looks and I borrowed glitter from a nice girl next to me, half of her hair dyed silver, the other half dyed black. A few minutes later Maias and my cheeks were colored with glitter in all colors of the rainbow, although my hair was already dyed in rainbow colours.
"By the way", Maia whispered into my ear, her lips dangerously near my neck, her voice the only one that matters of the thousands arround us, "The skirt you wear does highlight your trained longs legs pretty good and the shirt's very sexy." The only reaction I was able to do was smiling brightly while I analyzed her words. No, her thinking I was attractive was on a platonic basis, she just wanted to compliment me, no reason to interpret something into that words. However, I couldn't help but blushed, my whole body was burning of heat and my heart beated unhealthy fast.
Now the lights were slowly dimmed and music began to play. Everyone stopped speaking, I felt the excitement and tension in the whole arena.
Maia, who stood next to me, smiled excitedly and there was she.
