It was the year 2065, the sun was beaming down making the air humid and dry. This was unusual for the month of July, as I was sitting on the front porch Grandfather. I pulled out and old colored polaroid photo of my grandfather from my back pocket, of my favorite old torn and faded blue jeans. My Grandfather looked up from the thickest book i have ever seen and asked what i was looking at. As I handed him the photo I could tell from the expression on his face that he hadn't seen this photo in many years. My Grandfather closed his book and laid it down next to him on and old rusted round table, with one hand he took off his glasses from his long wrinkled nose and said; "Sonny let me trll you a story."
As i gave him my full attention my Grandfather proceeded to tell me about The Great Toilet-Paper War of 2020. "Sonny it all started in January in the year 2020 in a small town in ohio." the town waa run down with old industruwl plants that were vandalized, and inhabited by the most wonderdful minds of world. Inside on of those buildings was a man named Raynaldo, he was an immigrant from Spain who came to America with his Father, Mother, Sister and two Brothers. Raynaldo was a brilliant scientist whom had discovered cures for many illnesses. Raynaldo had also discovered a cure to the virus Called Covid-19. I started to chuckle, Grandpa i said, "What is Covid-19." That word just sounds so funny i exclaimed as i sat straight up in anticipation to his response. "Well Sonny Covid-19 is a virus that effects peoples upper respiratory system. Many people perished due to this virus and it caused the Great Toilet-Paper Depression of 2020." I tilted my head and glared at him and said, "The Great Toilet-Paper Depression, how can that be?"
With a sad tone in his voice he proceeded to tell me about how everyone in toen ran out to the stores and bought out every single roll of toilet paper on the shelves. People where buying them is bulk or by packs till there wasn't any more on the shelves. People were also buying them by truck loads and selling them to other people for way more then the were worth. Oh so it was like inflation right Grandpa I exclaimed." Yes! Just like that Sonny, you are absolutely correct, which is illegal i might add." As my Grandfather continued his story he went on to explain how toilet paper company's ran out of supplies because of the high demand for the product. So many stores started rationing toilet paper imitating 1 per house hold. This caused conflict though out the country which caused a war between neighbor's to fight violently amongst eachother; including braking into homes and looting stores. I kicked out my legs and rolled over on my back, as i continued to listen as my Grandfather spoke. I held the photo above my my head and noticed the extreme amount of toilet paper rolls next to my Grandfather but there was also a young Hispanic Guy standing next to him holding a bag of toilet paper crown made out of toilet paper over my Grandfathers head, it looked like he was laughing as he did that. I looked back at my Grandfather and said "who's this young Hispanic guy in the photo", "Well Sonny that's Raynaldo the scientist that developed the cure for Covid-19. "Grandfather how did thr Covid-19 start". "Well Sonny the virus was a manmade virus that came from China that spread though out the entire world within weeks. The virus was made to cure another dusease and was made by mistake and was miss properly contained and leaned into the air. The world locked down and people weren't allowed to leave their homes due to the rapped spreading of the virus. And many months later the world would slowly reopen allowing business to flourish again and the reproduction of toilet paper." "But Grandpa how did Raynaldo find the cure?"The Grandfather picked up his glass of ice tea and took a sip from it before setting it back down. "It was not just Raynaldo that found the cure it was a bunch of brilliant scientist from around the world that helped." But Sonny didn't know anyone named Raynaldonan dno one's ever talked about him in school or his family. "But how did you meet him Grandpa, and why dont we learn about him in school, and also why haven't I meet him yet?" The grandfather closed his eyes and leaned back in his chair. "Because he was infected and the cure, well the infection was to far adcanced for the cure to work. He quarantined himself until his last breath, where we had to remove him from his home and take him to the hospital to document the virus and its effects on the human body. Raynaldo donated his body to science so that we could get a better understanding of how the virus affect us. Sonny looked down because he realized he made his Grandfather remember his friend's death. "It's ok Sonny he was a strong person that would always give his life up for others no matter what, which is what he did to save the world. Another reason why you don't learn about him in school is because there were hundreds of scientist working on the cure for the virus but he was one of the head scientists so I'm sure if you looked hard enough you'll find him." "But Grandpa you never told me how you meet him."
The Grandfather looked back up and stared out inti the miledms of fields. "Well Sonny I meet him in Collage, his family immigrated here to start a new like a couple years before the virus took place and invaded the world. When the virus did happen I just stayed inside lime the government aaked, but after a while it got boring. No contact with anyone and staying alone, so when Raynaldo asked me if i could help I agreed. It was a high rick job, because now i had a higher risk of getting infected. I took the chance the same as Raynaldo did. I would help with getting supplies like mask, food, water, toilet paper from places so the scientist could work with out having to stop there experiments. But I also got to help get test samples from hospital's and deliver them to research labs." The Grandfather went on and on for what seemed like hours, explaining everything he learned about the virus while helping Raynaldo. Later that evening Sonny's Grandmother called them both in for dinner. Grandpa stood up and placed his hand on his lower back and stretched before walking into the house. I myself sat on the porch for a few more minutes starring at the picture and going over in my mind what my Grandfather told me. After a while I stood up and placed thr picture back into my back pocket and headed for thr door. As I reached for the handle, I turned around and looked out over the land seeing a chicken run across the dirt driveway and i had a chuckle. Thank God i wasn't alive during that pandemic, I would have had so much fun throwing toilet paper up into my Grandparents trees just to hear the cuss and yell about how expansive that was.
