"Welcome to New Earth!" a high pitched voice proclaimed as soon as the door opened.

A girl, of course not over the age of 16, was outside the door. She was wearing a pink spacesuit, her short blond hair inside the helmet looking like it should be in her eyes. As the leader, it was my job to answer.

"We thank you for the welcome and ask entrance to the New Earth," I reply.

She nodded approvingly, then motioned for us to follow. We all pick up our small suitcases of personal stuff and follow her out.

The new government has a bit of a thing for formalities. I was told this before we left our now dead planet as part of our training. The sixteen year olds were like the adults here, although they did keep contact with earth until it was destroyed. I just hope nothing too huge has happened since then.

We walk single file out of the ship, me at the far back, the youngsters just in front of me. The older kids took the lead, giving the rest of the kids confidence. Once we were outside of the grey metal ship, I'm fairly sure that all of us were gaping.

The colours! All the animals walking around! Bugs and strange slime things that hop; big things that look like a picture of a deer I saw once; birds of all different shapes and sizes! It was amazing! And all the different types of plants! I know for a fact that on earth before it got destroyed there was no way that all these plants existed. The flowers were of so many colours it was astounding, red and blue and purple and pink; some were even more than one colour, or strange colours I had never seen before. The trees were so tall, and not bent in on themselves like I was use to. Nature was all around, and I know I wasn't the only one with my mouth hanging open as I looked at my new home.

"This way to your homesteads," the girly voice said, shattering the magic that had all of us paralyzed and staring.

We followed the girl through the brush, slowly, eagerly pointing out the new sights to each other. Everything was so...green. That colour was so rare on Old Earth.

Eventually we came to a big clearing with at least 300 sturdy, pointy topped houses. They seemed to be built out of some sort of stone/metal stuff. There were about 15 houses that looked exactly the same. The rest all had personalizations, different coloured window shutter and that sort of thing. There were gardens behind all the houses including the ones I'm assuming are ours.

"Anyone over the age of 11 gets their own house. Anyone over the age of 14 has to take one or two of the littles with them. Anyone 11 and under is considered a little. Each house has a garden for your food. Everyone ages 10 and up will be assigned jobs tomorrow based on a series of tests. Today I want you to pick a house and get settled in. Anyone under the age of ten will help out wherever they can," The girl spouted off, then left us to our own resources.

We all just sort of stand there, looking at the funny shaped houses. Why are the roofs pointy? Sighing, I decide that if nobody is going to move, I will move them.

"Okay, anyone who is 12 or older come stand by me," I order, taking a few steps away from the group. All the twelve to sixteen-year-olds come join me. There are only about 15 of us, leaving about 6 of the little kids behind.

"Now if you are twelve, thirteen, or fourteen, you can go pick your house. They should be one of the completely identical ones over there," I informed them, pointing to the identical houses. About 7 kids head for the houses, picking one at random. I make sure to note where they went so we don't intrude.

"Littles, come here and pick the person you want to live with." Any of the younger kids who had siblings went to them, the rest looked on, confused.
