Three years earlier.

"Commander, six lives have been lost," a woman with glasses reported, her voice quivering with fear. The Commander, a towering figure, rose to his feet, his polearm held high, offering no immediate response.

"The casualties matter little," he addressed his remaining comrades, his voice resolute. "What matters is the progress we make. That is what we fight for."

Moments passed, and the echoes of an explosion reverberated through the air. With cautious steps, one of the group approached a crack in the cement wall, seeking to assess the situation outside. To their shock, an unseen arrow swiftly ended the life of the scout.

"Commander, we are surrounded," a man with trembling hands spoke, a sense of imminent danger hanging heavy in his words.

With a mere flick of his wrist, chaos erupted. Smoke billowed, explosions thundered, and the castle they had considered their stronghold was assailed from all directions.

In that harrowing moment, the Commander realized their fatal unpreparedness. His fallen comrades lay lifeless before him, testaments to their shortcomings.

"Commander, we must retreat," the woman declared. "I have signaled the others. We shall regroup at our designated location. Let us make haste to the portal," she directed the Commander, who gazed upon the devastation with anguish and regret.

Gunfire, the crackle of magic, the whistle of arrows, and the detonations of bombs engulfed the area. There was no respite, no solace to be found. Different factions clashed with a fervor fueled by divergent beliefs, converging upon a single fateful battleground.

"Was it worth our stubborn insistence on remaining here, blinded by our own pride?" the woman pondered, adjusting her glasses. A tear slipped from her eye as she surveyed the fallen comrades strewn about. "No. But you being the commander of this group, I cannot place the blame solely upon you."

She sighed, summoning a bittersweet smile for the Commander. "Perhaps tomorrow, or in the days to come, who knows what lies ahead for us."
