The sound of metal crashing suddenly filled the silence of the whole house. It could be heard clearly,  a sound of a man and a woman screaming in the background. The clock said it was only 05.23 in the morning, but the house was so loud. It was so loud as if the whole building trembled.

Bae Suzy slowly opened her eyes. By the time she realized what happened outside her room, her heart skipped a beat. Judging by the sound of it, it seemed worse compared to the last time it happened. She let out a sigh and reached for her phone beside her bed.

There was a Katalk message from her brother who was in the next room.

"Are you awake?", Bae Seo Jun askedon his Katalk. It was sent 10 minutes ago. The fight must be started since then.

"I'm going to your room" Suzy replied. She put back her phone as she stood up from her bed. The sound of a woman cried now echoing. Suzy held back her tears. She bit her lip and told herself it was not time for her to cry.

As Suzy reached out for the door knob, the door already opened. Her oppa was already standing in front of her room. They looked at each other without words. There was definitely a tension in the air that they could feel.

Another sound of metal crashing came from upstairs. It was where their parent's room located.

Suzy couldn't take any longer. Her heart hurt every second. "I'll come with you", she said. Seo Jun nodded. He also felt nervous, although this was not the first time something like this happened. But one thing for sure, every time it happened, it cracked his heart open.

The view was frightening on the second floor. The vase was scattered all over the floor. The painting was torn. And the scariest sight they saw that night was, when their parents cried and screamed at each other.

"Appa!" Seo Jun run toward his father, as Mr. Bae raised a golf stick and swang it toward his wife. Mrs. Bae just kneeled down on her knees helplessly. She cried while begging his husband to stop.

"Don't stop me!! Don't stop me!!" Mr. Bae screamed to Seo Jun. Seo Jun ignoring his father's order, he kept trying to take away the golf stick on Mr. Bae's hand. Suzy just froze. The tears that she tried to hold back finally fell. She bit her lips stronger.

As Seo Jun successfully took away the golf stick from Mr. Bae's hand, Mr. Bae took the chance to pick another flower vase near him. He tried to throw it toward Mrs. Bae but Seo Jun saw it first. His body reflexed, and tried to block.

Another metal crash sound echoed.

The blood flowed from Seo Jun's head. He tried to be conscious, but his body gave up. He collapsed to the floor.

Mr. Bae stunned. His eyes were shaking, realizing what he had done to his son. Mrs. Bae screamed hysterically, "Oh no! No! No! Seo Jun-ah, woke up!".

Suzy ran toward his brother. Her throat dried. She couldn't talk, but her tears kept flowing. The corner of her lips started to bleed as she bit it strongly.

"Bae Seo Jun! Woke up! We need to go to the hospital now!" Mrs. Bae ran to her room, trying to find the car key. Suzy shook her brother's body, "Oppa.. please wake up"

Mr. Bae snapped back from his thought. He carried his son and ran to his car. Not long after that, Mrs. Bae came down with a car key in her hand.

Seo Jun who was still unconscious, was placed in the rear seat of the car, on Mrs. Bae's lap.

Mr. Bae froze again, his hand shook. "I can't drive...", he mumbled. Suzy heard his father's words.

"Let's go! We need to go now!", Mrs. Bae screamed once more. She was afraid as the blood kept flowing from his son's head. But Mr. Bae couldn't move an inch. His body was trembling. The color drained from his face. He was afraid to show his face in front of his son. He was too embarrassed.

"I'll drive", Suzy said automatically. It was only a month after she got her license, but there was no other way. She never knew that the first time she drive, she would drive to the hospital, with her only brother laying helplessly on the back.

****

Suzy's eyes locked to the road. She tried to focus. Luckily, it was still early in the morning so there was no traffic.

"Faster! You need to go faster!" with that, Suzy stepped on the gas. She looked toward the back of the car. Her mother cried harder. She pressed down the wound on his son's head, trying to stop the bleeding.

"Suzy-yah! Faster!" Suzy panicked. She never drove the car this fast. She tried to focus once more but her mother's screams kept her nervous.

It was in the intersection. The green light turned yellow. Suzy needed to stop the car now, but the car was too fast. The sound of the tires was too loud. It was so loud that her mother's screaming started to vanish. Suzy's eyes widened as the worst thing she imagined happened. There was another car coming from the left side of her car.

That 1 second was all that it takes to break the silence of the morning. Two cars collided. The sound of the glass breaking was very loud . The tires were squeaking. The people's screaming filled the air. All the nervousness that Suzy had immediately gone. She felt at peace. There was no screaming anymore. There was just silence.

Suzy closed her eyes. She finally could catch the sleep she lost.

The tears rolled down her cheek as the first snow fell.

The winter had come.
