Cyruses POV:
I stood at my normal spot behind the cash register. Half listening to the customers conversation who was seated at a table near the windows, half listening to the quiet music playing throughout the café.The smell of coffee and various baked goods danced through the air as I was taking in my surroundings. Although it was nothing new, it felt like a whole new world. But I guess I always see things that way.
While I was lost in thought a girl walked through the door, dressed in all black. She seemed to breathe in the scent of the shop as I did seconds before. We were mid December, Capricorn season but they're earths so we don't really correspond. Especially as fires. You'd think it'd be more water signs that we hate. But we despise earth signs, well at least we're supposed to.
The girl let out an audible sigh of relief and you could see her muscles relax when she was met with the warmth of the shop.
She walked up to me and looked at me through sunglasses.
'It's December, why is she wearing sunglasses?' I thought. But shook it off as maybe a preference thing, you never really know people.
"Welcome to starlight café, what can I get started for you?" I asked the scripted question with my best "I'm not half asleep" voice.
"Um, can I just get a double chocolate muffin and an iced coffee please?" She asked nervously.
"Of course, I'll get that started for you, can I get a name for this order?" I asked.
"Um..." she trailed off, is it really that hard to say your name? I mean some people don't like giving out their real names, but most people already have a name picked out before they come into the café. "Aliyah." She finally said, almost like she was trying to convince herself more than me.
"Coming right up, Aliyah." I said.As I turned to make her coffee I noticed she seemed very nervous, like she needed to be somewhere or at least just not be here.
I finished her coffee, grabbed her muffin and set them on the counter top between us.
"That'll be $7.65." I said smiling trying to hide the fact that I really needed a nap. I didn't sleep much last night. There was a voice in my head, I think. And it just kept repeating 'find them, find them, find them.' It was weird and I got about twenty minutes of sleep.
She handed me the money and took her things. And then her hood fell, and before she could lift it back up, I saw it. I saw the air symbol. She doesn't belong here. This is the fire district, how did she get here? She quickly pulled her hood back up and ran out the door.My mind told me to go after her. But my need for a job told me not to.
Athziris POV:
I sat outside the principals office, watching as some other students passed me by, some stared, some ignored me completely. I heard the squeaking of sneakers and then I heard the clicking of my principals high heels. "Fuck my life." I whispered, rolling my eyes.
"That's enough of the profanities miss Vesta, step into my office." She said gesturing towards the big oak door next to the bench I was sitting on.
She sat down behind her desk that was made of the same wood as the door. She leaned forward and crossed her arms placing them on the desk.
"Have a seat Athziri." She said. I reluctantly did. I'm so sick of coming here.
"Do you know why you're here?" She asked looking me up and down.
"Yes, I do. The real question though, is do you?" I asked back.
"Don't sass me, Athziri. You may be a senior but you still attend this school, and as long as you do you will respect me!" She slightly raised her voice and I let out a small laugh.
