part twelve

lee donghyuck wasn't really where he had expected to spend his new year's eve night. he had hoped to have been cuddled up in his bed just like any other night, but of course his best friend would never let him spend a holiday alone. chenle had instead decided to drag him along to the party he and jisung were headed to.

at first donghyuck didn't have much to complain about. the party was actually pretty chill, but he soon began to feel awkward and almost as if he was third-wheeling his best friend and jisung. it was more like jisung messing around as he normally did as chenle stared on in admiration.

deciding to leave the two to their antics, donghyuck had headed to the back where the hot tub hyunjin told them about was. that's how he ended up in the predicament he was currently in.

"donghyuck?!"

"m-mark?"

donghyuck had genuinely been chilling alone in the hot tub enjoying the cold night when he heard footsteps approaching him. he turned to see who was walking towards when he saw him. the mark lee. at the one party he hadn't expected him to show up. before donghyuck could stutter out a greeting, the boy began to take off his shirt and donghyuck found his greeting caught in his throat. he couldn't do anything but gulp it back down, his eyes trailing down the older's surprisingly fit body.

his eyes snapped back up instantly meeting with the older's as mark flushed in embarrassment, instinctively covering his bare chest. taking us back to their dilemma.

"wh-what are you doing here?" mark sputtered.

"what are you doing here?" the younger returned in an accusing tone. donghyuck wasn't actually mad, if anything he was excited to see mark again but he had to play off his embarrassment somehow. "you're don't seem to be the party type anyway," he mumbled.

"i'm not.. renjun dragged me here." mark grumbled causing donghyuck to laugh.

"chenji did the same thing to me," the younger smiled at mark's confused face.

"..chenji?"

"chenle and jisung. the annoying duo? it's what they call themselves," donghyuck explained chuckling and mark couldn't help but laugh with him. they were pretty wild together.

"makes sense," mark smiled. donghyuck looked back up at him.

"i heard you don't like chenle? why's that?" mark's smile dropped instantly, looking away from the younger. donghyuck couldn't help but notice how stiff and awkward mark looked standing half naked in the cold, hands still over his chest. the boy patted the seat next him, motioning to the older, "come in, it's cold. and you don't have to answer, i was just wondering." donghyuck muttered.

mark, shocked by the younger's invitation, dropped his hands back down and took a step up the ladder leading into the tub while giving himself a mini pep talk. it's just donghyuck, another boy, why're you so nervous? he's also shirtless so it's normal...right? it's not weird unless you make it weird, stupid.

grumbling at his own thoughts mark quickly stepped into the tub, emerging his cold body into the warm water. he sat down rather aggressively, a little too immersed in his ridiculous thoughts causing him to sit a little too close to the younger than he had intended. their shoulders clashed and donghyuck's knee knocked into the side of mark's thigh.

mark's eyes shot open, his thoughts instantly vanishing. donghyuck yelped at the sudden contact with mark's skin, not expecting the older to have sat so close to him.

"oh my god, i'm so sorry." mark instantly leaned away from the younger, "i didn't mean to..." mark trailed off awkwardly.

donghyuck let out an anxious laugh, "oh, it's alright," not really helping the awkward situation. mark was now sitting a few inches away from the younger and the atmosphere between the two seemed to silence suddenly. only the bubbling noises of the hot tub and distant voices from the house where audible through the night.
