Stephanie never had a type of man. She knew what she found attractive. She was swooned by substance of chacter. It was about what they've been through and if they had the qualities she was looking for: honest; faithful; and available man who was able to protect her heart. She didn't care about looks at all. She was huge on fronting as if she can do without a man, though she can, truth was she was tired of being single. Love that was unreturned was all she was used to. She was used to being interested in men that showed absolutely no interested in her. She gave up on the possibility of being in love and it was fine with her if she never found it. She actually began to believe that there was no such thing as a soulmate.
When she had a guys' number, she usually never called. In one situation, she did call and that was one call she regrets to this day. Stephanie's friend, Tionne tried hooking her up with her fiancee's right hand man. Turns out, he was a jerk. From then on, Stephanie vowed that she would never have someone set her up again. Stephanie never told a guy she was interested in them due to the fear of rejection. The only way she saw getting into a relationship was by being set up until that happened. Stephanie figured it was best not to tell Tionne about any recent event that had to due with a man since that wasn't the first thing involving Tionne that went sour when it came to her love life. Not only that, Stephanie and Tionne haven't spoken in a month due to a fallout during a conversation about men, so it wasn't like Tionne would know anyway.
August was far from what Stephanie would be interested in. From what was observed by Stephanie based on interviews where August discussed women, he was definitely not her type. Unlike Stephanie, he was not interested in monogamous commitment. He was the hit and quit it type. He didn't come off as the affectionate type either. He'd emphasized how was not interested in the act of kissing a woman on the lips. He discussed how he has slept with women that he hasn't kissed. What?! Doesn't the kissing come first?
Stephanie was however interested in other things such as the way he persevesred from a rough upbringing, honesty and "I don't care what anyone thinks" attitude. Another notable quality was a smile of perfection. That was the first thing Stephanie noticed on anyone. There appeared to be a tough exterior on August, but there was a huge heart underneath. The most important thing he possessed was the love he had for his mother. If a man doesn't love his mother, he'll never love you.
Stephanie was simple. Things didn't have to be all extravagant. It was the thought that came with the gesture that mattered. She isn't the type that needed to be splurged on and spoiled with gifts. She didn't need dinners at the finest restaurants. As long as she was eating, she was happy. She wasn't into the materialistic things, but those that were sentimental like roses, and cards. She was into a man who never actually gave any! Did she knew what she was getting herself into? Not by a long shot.
