*MILLER*
I watch as Casey walks away from us down the field towards the parking lot. Her blonde hair shines in the sunlight like it always did. Until today, I had forgotten how close all four of us were before Jason left. Talking together, arguing together, it felt like old times. I miss that. And now seeing her move on with Adam Simmons after not talking to either Cameron or I since the funeral, that hurts. I've only spent a little time around Adam, but I know enough to not like him. I wish I could say the only reason I care is because Jason wouldn't approve, but it's not.
Cameron places a hand on my shoulder, "She looks good," He comments thoughtfully, also watching her walk away from us.
"She does." I agree.
There must've been something in my voice, because Cameron adds "That's a good thing, Miller."
I look at him curiously, "I know."
He smirks like he knows something, "Then stop looking so bothered."
I sigh, "It just hurts that she could move on so easily without us."
Cameron shakes his head, "She didn't move on. She just needed space."
"What makes you say that?" I ask, he is aware she has a new boyfriend right?
He shrugs, "She was here today wasn't she?"
I start walking towards the locker room, and Cameron falls into step with me. As we walk I notice the freshly painted white lines on the bright green, newly watered, grass. The signal to the start of football season. Senior year, something I've been looking forward to for a long time, but now that it's here it doesn't feel the same.
"So are we actually going to that party tonight?" Cameron asks, grabbing his bag from his locker.
I pause, trying to decide if this is something I actually want to do. I shrug, "Can't hurt, right?"
Cameron smiles, always up for a party. "That's what I was thinking."
I roll my eyes, "I know that's what you were thinking."
"Also means we might get to spend more time with Casey." He points out, "And her boy."
The serious tone in his voice makes me look at my best friend, "You don't like him either?"
He scrunches his face in disgust, "Hell no. He couldn't keep his hands off of her."
Relief fills me, "I thought maybe it was just me."
Cameron throws his bag over his shoulder and starts to walk out of the locker room, I follow him. "Why? Cause of that thing you two almost had?"
I come to a halt in the middle of the parking lot, "What?" I didn't think anyone knew about that.
Cameron rolls his eyes, "Come on, you guys fooled a lot of people but not me."
I shake my head, "There was nothing between us, Cam."
He raises an eyebrow, "Is that why you would sneak into her room when we had
sleepovers with Jason?"
"We just talked." I argue, not even bothering to deny it.
Cameron scoffs, "Obviously. I know you wouldn't do anything more."
I sigh, relieved that he at least didn't think I took advantage of her. "Did Jason know?" I
ask.
Cameron shakes his head, "No. Just me."
"Why didn't you say anything to him?" I ask. Cameron has known Jason way longer than me.
A small grin forms on his face, and his eyes lock with mine, "Because you're good for her." Is all he says before he starts to walk towards his car.
I stand there, frozen in place for at least another minute or two. I'm not sure if it's because I thought no one knew about me and Case, or because of what Cameron just said. I'm good for her? What does that mean?
