I woke up with a sigh. It was so hot. I looked around. The savanna stretched as far as I could see. I turned. Nova, Quinn, Cymry, Saber, Simba and Kiko were all fast asleep. I got up silently and tiptoed out from the shelter of the acacia tree. It had already been just less than a month since we found ourselves in the Badlands, the most forbidden region of all the Lunae Silvam. 24 days.
"It's my birthday!" I cried out loud. Normally today I would learn to fly, since Swiftwings have to wait until they turn two to learn flight and combat skills, but Nova had taught me how a few weeks ago. I was still not great, but the feeling of my wings catching the breeze, and myself just soaring, is amazing!
"And your death day" A voice said.
I turned around in embarrassment.
Cymry was sitting down, grooming herself. "No matter the day, we still need sleep," she muttered.
I gave an apologetic smile. "Sorry!"
Cymry was a beautiful Cheetah hawk, with gorgeous wings. The wings, however, weren't for flying. She could only glide short distances. Her mother, Saber, is just as beautiful, although she is scarred and more regal.
"Happy birthday!" Nova yowled, as she stretched and stood up. Quinn came beside her.
"Aw thanks! You remembered!" I grinned.
Nova was very pretty. She was tall, and had raven-black and blue fur with purple hints. She was a Wolf Dragon, and therefore has Dragon wings. She was capable of crazy things with her magic, and sometimes (more recently) she would lose most control. She can sometimes scare me, but she is my best friend. Quinn looks like Nova, with brown and green fur and he cannot transform between wolf and Dragon like Nova can. He is shorter, but has a friendly face and is our walking encyclopedia. He knows all there is to know about plants, animals and... literally everything!
I turned around to look for Kiko, the young Wolf Dragonet, Simba and Saber.
Kiko is adorable, with her pink and green scales, and Simba looks like Cymry, just darker.
As I saw them come out of the cave I said, "good morning!"
They looked at each other with a look. A look.
"What?" I asked.
"Red, we have prepared a surprise for you!" They shouted.
"Well then what are we waiting for?" I cried, leaping forward.
"Come and see!" Nova said, running behind the cave in the small mountain.
We all chased after her. I was so excited! As we neared the back of the cave, I heard a few thumps and then silence.
"What's going on?" I asked hesitantly.
"Happy birthday Red!" They all cried. The herd of Pegasi that lives close to our cave jumped out, and they revealed the oasis where we get our water from.
Around the pool was decorated with flowers and lights, and had a makeshift rock table with food! I ran over to the table, and looked at the details. Everything was cooked perfectly and garnished with so many delicious things! They even found a massive leaf as a tablecloth.
"Guys!" I screamed. "You didn't have to do this!"
Nova grinned. "We haven't even gotten to the best part!"
"No No NO!" Quinn said. "I did not agree with this. It was reckless!"
Nova raced behind a tree and brought out a red- iced cake.
"What?!" I couldn't understand. "That looks exactly like the cake my mom makes.... NOVA!"
Nova grinned sheepishly. "I teleported back to your home and asked your mom to make this. I was so tired though, I nearly dropped the cake!"
