I slowly came to. I expected to be back in the bed. That must have been a nightmare. It HAD to be.
I could feel the warmth of sunlight against my closed eyelids. Was it morning already? Did I sleep through the night at last? Slowly my eyes fluttered open.
WHERE AM I?!
I found myself staring at a black ceiling. Slowly turning my head from side to side I noticed windows and the back of a seat. What's more, I could see that I was moving from the windows. Don't panic. I thought to myself.
I slowly started to sit up, being very careful not to make a sound. If whoever is driving this vehicle sees I'm awake, they might hurt me. My heart was pounding.
I slowly peered over the seat to my right . I could see the backs of two men's heads in the back seat, one bald, the other with long blonde hair pulled into a bun. I tried seeing who was driving but the seat blocked my view. I looked at the rear view mirror and saw dark brown, almost black eyes looking back at me.
"She's awake" The familiar gruff voice startled me as it broke the silence in the truck.
The two men directly in front of me whirled around to look at me. I quickly backed away, flattening myself against the back window. "Please, don't hurt me!" I blurted out.
The men looked at each other and then burst into laughter. The one with the bun said, "We're not going to hurt you. I'm Tucker" He offered a small smile.
"Wh-what do you want then? Why did you take me? I don't have money if that's what you're after. No one will pay my ransom".
Tucker answered, "Slow down. We don't want your money, we're not going to hurt you. We are what's called 'Fetchers'. We have a job to do. We hunt down people, like a bounty hunter-".
I could feel my heart start pounding even harder in my chest. "A bounty hunter?! I haven't done anything I swear! You have the wrong girl". Maybe they'll just see it was a mix-up and let me go.
Tucker's hands flew up in defense, "Wrong wording! We're not fetching you because of anything you did. We were sent to get you because-"
The driver cut him off, "Watch what you say" he growled.
"Please" I begged. "All I want is to know why you've taken me".
"And trust me, I want to tell you... but I can't". Tucker's hazel eyes met mine and he looked like he was telling the truth. A look of guilt crossed his face as he looked out the window, "It will all be explained once we get there, I promise".
There were a few moments of silence in the truck before one of the other men broke the silence. He hadn't spoken before so it startled me. "I'm hungry", he grumbled.
Tucker turned to me, "Are you hungry?" he asked with a small smile.
I hadn't realized it until now but I really was . I had no idea what time it was or how long I had gone without eating. I nodded hesitantly. Tucker's smile grew.
