James:
The school caught on fire but this time it wasn't my fault.
I may have trifled with electricity and water before but there was never a fire. Or at least never one this bad.
"I'm going to be straight with you. You're all here because each one of you was at the origin of the fire around the same time it started," the principal voiced suspiciously. I took the time to look over at the two other people in the room. I met them both recently, in fact, we were all at the library to study for the English class we shared.
"Sir-" Kenna, the girl with evenly cut, long, black, straight hair, tried.
"Unless it's a confession I don't want it," Principal Shortslinger interrupted before he himself was interrupted by a not so inconspicuous objection. I looked for the source of the scoff only to see Audrey, who's a little less put together, about to burst.
"You're being unreasonable," she protested to him. He turned his almost bald head and scratched the back of it with a mock confusion on his face. If he only has three strands of hair left why won't he just cut it off completely?
"Am I?" he fought with Audrey. "I only want to figure out who destroyed the library," he looked around at all of us as he said it.
I really didn't do it but I feel so nervous right now. Situations like these make me immensely uncomfortable even if what's going on isn't my fault.
"Is that sweat, boy?" His questioning only made me more nervous. Kenna looked sympathetic but curious too like she really wanted to know if I did do it.
"Sod off." His attention turned back around to Audrey who looked bored and mad at the same time. "He obviously didn't do it." She decided that this was the right moment to assess her nails. Her boredom made Principle Shortslinger even more irritable.
"Is that a confession?" He questions staring her down. She responded with another scoff.
"Why? Just because Mr. Boyscout Dropout didn't do it means I did? Now that's just stupid." If you thought the Principal was upset before he's fuming now.
"Audrey," Kenna whispered, interrupting her. "You're not helping."
"I shouldn't have to. He knows we didn't do anything wrong," she stared him down confidently. For a split second, he looked scared but it quickly relaxed back into his natural state of anger.
"If none of you confess, I'll have no choice but to give all of you detention for the next three weeks and possible expulsion to whoever did start the fire." You could see Audrey's pupils visible constrict at his smug face. I could immediately tell that Audrey's only thought of him was What an asshole. I didn't like this man at all. He was the kind of person to have trouble getting a wife and when he does he'll still feel entitled to cheat on her. I don't like cheaters. Especially the ones who cheat at life.
"Now if none of you-" before he could finish that sentence, a loud boom went off on the other side of the school.
Kenna:
I swear I didn't do it.
I know that I would be the first person someone would think of if they knew what I could do and how out of control it gets but I would never do this. Not voluntarily at least.
When Principal Shortslinger accused us of starting the fire, I'll admit I was concerned at first. I thought I accidentally made a mistake and let it get out of control. After he looked scared by Audrey's unsaid accusation I felt more comfortable, but I don't know for sure what actually happened. Besides, James looked really nervous when the principal was questioning him.
