We got dressed in simple and elegant lunch dresses, summery and flowing in the wind. We were sat outside, the fountain next to us giving us a gentle mist that felt so nice as the afternoon sun was high in the sky. My dad was sat out here already, his eyes closed and so peaceful, happy to be outside. He knew he wouldn't be here long, but he was taking every second of it and holding onto it.

"Do you like you're new housing quarters?" My dad asked us, opening his eyes and smiling our direction. "Yes, very much papa thank you." I know he hasn't seen it, but it shows he cares about me.

"Well, the country misses you and will be happy for you to be watching over for a while." I grabbed his hand and smiled, "Anything for you," I told him. Alright, maybe I'm a little sentimental and not terribly heartless. I did love my father! When I was a kid he was my idol and I wanted to be just like him but then I discovered he couldn't love someone like me, that someone like me doesn't deserve to be someone's daughter. So I pushed him away.

Shelby wiped away a tear I hadn't noticed had dropped, then kissed my shoulder. She was the most loving and caring person I have ever met and I'm the luckiest person in the world for finding her. My eyes said it all, and hers said it back.

"You two are.. Made for each other, I can see it," My dad told us, his eyes shining with happiness. He was finally satisfied with the person I was with, and could make his peace with it. That's all I wanted, to be treated the same no matter who I wanted to be with.

My mother walked outside with my brother, and what looked to be a whole French patisserie. Shelbys stomach rumbled and I laughed, "Mhmm, me as well." I winked at her and she blushed softly, her eyes showing a light happy lustfulness. You would think I didn't just fuck her, she is going to be the death of me I swear.

We ate lunch and talked about our lives recently, I informed them of my job in the coffee shop, which they seemed almost entertained by the idea, and my dad immediately ordered me an espresso machine, which I happily accepted with a slight eye roll.

After we finished eating, my mother had to go get ready to speak to the papers, stupid reporters hanging outside our gate, waiting to see what was happening. By now everyone had figured out I was back in this country, and they wanted an appearance. My brother went to see his girlfriend, but I don't know if they're serious as he hadn't really mentioned her.

My dad pulled out a bag of what I immediately recognized as pot candies. "Father!" I exclaimed. "Well, I've been in pain what do you expect?" He said and I laughed, "These aren't the same ones you confiscated from me right?" I asked.

"No those are long gone!" I laughed and looked down at Shelby, we've never discussed this before, but she had a curious glint in her eye, "You used to smoke pot?" She asked.

"Ha, oui, all the time." She kissed my cheek, "I've always wanted to try. Who better to try it around than you?" My father was already shoving them to us, so I read how much and broke her off a tiny piece, then giving myself a whole one.

"Not fair!" My kitten stubbornly pouted. "My kitten, it is enough for you." She sighed but smiled softly, she trusted me so much. It's a perfect time for it, if I have to go out in front of press anyways, it'll calm my nerves... well, that, or my attention goes entirely to Shelby and I can't think of anything else. We shall see. We sat outside for a while with my dad, just talking to him as he reminisced in his memories. He used to travel to other countries and volunteer wherever he could, a genuinely compassionate and supportive human being I just don't know how he didn't show it, or I didn't see it, before.
