𝕒𝕣𝕚 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕜𝕒𝕪𝕝𝕒𝕟have been best friends since kindergarten and today was their last day of 9th grade.
"bye class! oh boy im going to miss you all!" the teacher, mrs fink , said.
"were gonna miss you too!" kaylan lied. ari nodded and they smiled and interlocked fingers
"pool at 4?" kaylan whispered. ari eagerly nodded and looked back at the teacher
"as you know, you will be taking your laptops home. no games, no texting, no youtube." kaylan noticed ari's smile fade and she looked at kaylan and rolled her eyes. kaylan laughed to herself and redirected her focus to her notebook it was titled "SketchBook of Impossible Things" where she doodled things she wanted to be real, but weren't. her and ari had the same notebook, they have had it since 3rd grade.
"and with that, you all are dismissed." everyone scrambled to the door, excited for the summer to start. it was kaylan's and ari's tradition to go to the pool that was near their house on the last day of school. kaylan and ari nodded to eachother and walked out. kaylan walked over to her white jeep and hopped into the drivers seat and ari hopped into the passenger seat. they threw their bags into the backseat and turned up their favorite song:
"sex money feelings die" by Lykke Li. they yelled
"SCHOOLS OVER!" and kaylan hit the pedal. they yelled to the lyrics
"SEX MONEY FEELINGS DIE, BABY DONT YOU CRY" and let their hair flow behind them. they drove over to kaylan's house and picked up swimsuits. ari always borrows swimsuits. kaylans mom, stephanie, wasnt home from her modeling job. they hopped back into the white jeep waiting for them in the driveway with their pool things and turned on a different song:

"YOUR GONNA HAVE TO DO MORE THAN JUST SAY IT YOUR GONNA HAVE TO DO LESS WHEN YOU DO IT" they screamed and people gave them looks. they arrived at the pool and set their things down on their beach chairs. kaylans big brother, alex, smiled at kaylan and ari, as he jumped in the pool with his friends. ari and kaylan took out their sunscreen and applied it to their arms and then switched to do each others back. this was their life, this is what they did, every single year. the lifeguards flashed a big smile, as they know all of the lifeguards and are on first name basis with them.
"hey kay! come check out this flip!" kaylan heard, and turned around from ari's back to see alex, on the diving board.
"IM WATCHING!" she yelled back and smiled as she looked. he did a flip but failed miserably and it more looked like a cannonball. kaylan burst out laughing
"10/10" she yelled in between laughs. ari started to laugh and soon they were clutching their stomachs from laughter. the start of summer.
"this is gonna be fun" kaylan thought to herself. they stopped laughing and looked at eachother smiling and started laughing again. the case of the laughs askaylans mom would call it. they stopped laughing finally and decided to jump in. they were leaning against the side of the pool talking when they heard two girls laughing
"HAHAH! what is that swimsuit?" a girl said, the voice sounding familiar. she turned around to see piper, and anabel, leaning against the gate, behind them, laughing. kaylan rolled her eyes and whispered to ari
"the whatevers are here" the whatevers was their nickname for anabel and piper, as whenever they said something back to them they would roll their eyes and say
"whatever" and then sashay away.
"are you kidding me?" ari whispered back. kaylan nodded and said
"ignore them. they are just asking for attention." ari slowly, and hesitantly nodded, and went back to her conversation. there was splashing and screaming, the sounds of the pool on the first day of summer.
time skip
it was getting late, it was about 8 or 9, so kaylan and ari headed back to the jeep. kaylan dropped ari off and drove herself home. when she got home her mom was sitting on the kitchen counter drinking a diet coke.
"hi mom!" kaylan hugged her
"hi kay! how was the last day of school?" she looked up at her and smiled her perfect set of teeth
"fun. me and ari stayed at the pool for sooo long." she chuckled and said
"i can see that. go brush your teeth and dont stay up too late!" she nodded and went to her room to change. she changed into a teal sweatshirt and shorts that were covered up by said sweatshirt. this is what she looked like

she went into her bathroom and brushed her teeth and took off her makeup. she walked over to her bed and took out her laptop and turned on some pewdiepie. (you didnt expect that did u?? 😏) slowly but surely her eyelids felt heavy and she sank into her bed. she shoved her laptop off of her lap and let sleep take over her body
