"SO, how'd it go?!"

the loud slamming of the front door wipes the excited look off of hoseok's face. jimin's solemn state, and the fact that he is still carrying the cupcake box, cannot be a good sign.

"what happened? why do you still have the cupcakes?" hoseok worriedly asks, patiently waiting for him on the sofa. jimin lets out a loud sigh before plopping himself down next to his best friend. he quietly props the box onto the coffee table. the curly-haired boy waits for his friend to speak.

"did you know she speaks english?" jimin asks, giving hoseok a questioning gaze as he breaks the silence.

hoseok hesitantly nods, only to gain an eyeroll from jimin. "she doesn't know a lot, though! it was enough for her to be able to teach me spanish by using it as a starting point. and she's very self-conscious about her accent, so she barely speaks it."

"oh," jimin manages to say, feeling guilty once again.

"she must've been really angry if she spoke it to you..."

"i tried to be kind and apologize, but it all ended up blowing up in my face," jimin mutters, playing with the hem of his shirt.

"what happened?" hoseok inquires, earning a glare from jimin. "that is if you're comfortable with sharing, of course."

jimin sighs in defeat before continuing. "once amelia opened the box, it was like she was going to pounce on me at any second. she asked me if it was a joke and told me to get out. then she ran off to the kitchen."

"oh... that-"

"sucks? yeah, it does. especially when..."

jimin words grow quiet as he trails off, unable to finish his sentence. but he didn't have to, hoseok knew where it was going.

"i'm sure she'll come around. amelia's an understanding person," hoseok mentions, hoping to ease jimin's pain.

"not this time."

hoseok takes in a deep breath, taking in his friend's aura of defeat. suddenly, an idea pops into his head. "i know what'll cheer you up-"

"no, i don't need any more of your ideas," jimin complains.

"hear me out! how about a night out on the town? bachelor park jimin and his wingman jung hoseok back at it again like in the old days!"

hoseok flashes a pair of finger guns at jimin with an optimistic look on his face. the pink-haired man groans before stuffing his face into a pillow.

"i'm not in the mood. what if we just stay in, watch a movie, and catch up on each other's lives?"

the older flashes jimin an understanding look mixed in with pride. he gives jimin a playful shove. "ah jimin, i always knew you were destined for the domestic life."

"whatever," jimin says, his response coming out as muffled sounds. he suddenly raises his head to face hoseok, giving him a pout and a hopeful look. "can we also order a pizza?"

hoseok loudly scoffs, evidently offended. "you want to eat pizza while you're in barcelona? not on my watch, i'm making us a delicious paella!"

the older eagerly jumps off the couch. jimin makes a squeamish face, quickly getting on hoseok's nerves. "park jimin, you are the pickiest eater on earth. it's what got you in trouble the first time."

jimin let's out a dramatic gasp. "there was no need for you to call me out like that!"

in a matter of seconds, a fluffy cushion roughly meets hoseok's face. it doesn't take long for the two grown men to partake in an impromptu pillow fight.

"fuiste demasiada fuerte con él," fernando mindlessly says, dangling his legs over the kitchen counter.

"no vengas tú a criticarme ahora," amelia huffs, roughly kneading the dough before her.

"i'm just saying, creo que estás expresando todas tus frustraciones hacia el pobre chico," fernando shrugs.

"eso es absurdo," amelia mutters under her breath, giving fernando a dark glare. "jimin me ofendió, tengo el derecho de molestarme."

"don't lie to yourself, otros clientes te han hecho y dicho cosas mil veces peor," fernando says, causing amelia to stop her kneading. "as your cousin, you know i have to be honest with you. our business isn't doing well, nobody comes in anymore. our bakery is a ghost town."

"no me lo tienes que seguir recordando, señor inglés," amelia retorts with a roll of her eyes.

"hablando de," fernando says, his voice now serious. his teasing nature is now gone as he hops off of the counter. digging into his back pocket, he pulls out an already open envelope and hands it over to amelia.

giving her cousin a hesitant look, amelia takes the wrinkled envelope. retrieving the letter from the inside, her eyes quickly scan the words. and just like that, her heart drops. her breath gets caught in her throat. her world stops.

her worst fear came true.
