JO COULDN'T SLEEP that night. She tossed and turned for hours until the first sign of daybreak when she slid out of bed and pulled out a joint JJ had left behind on the porch. She needed to take the edge off, she couldn't stand feeling like this.

When John B eventually rolled out of bed and threw on a shirt, he immediately smelled the weed wafting into the house. He expected to find JJ laying around somewhere, but was thoroughly surprised when he saw his sister taking a hit.

"Uh, you good?" John B asked worriedly.

"Yup," Jo replied monotonously.

Her chest was all warm and fuzzy and a lazy smile sat on her lips. She favored this feeling over drowning in helplessness.

"You sure?" John B drawled slowly. "Do you like, wanna talk or something?"

"Or something," Jo said. She held up the joint.

"Okay then," John B murmured.

Jo had never been one to talk about her feelings. She was more of a 'bottle-it up-until-it-exploded-and-made-a-huge-mess' kind of person. John B just hoped that it wouldn't make her reckless and put her in danger. She also had a tendency to do that when she was blinded by overwhelming emotion.

"DCS! I know you're in there!" A voice came from outside.

Jo furrowed her eyebrows and opened the door, giving JJ an unamused look. "Not funny," she deadpanned.

"Well, good morning to you too, little miss stoner," JJ chuckled as the smell of weed filtered through his nostrils. "You better pay me back for that joint."

Jo rolled her eyes and shoved JJ's shoulder. "Not gonna happen," she teased as she grabbed her sunglasses from the couch.

"John B! Let's go!" She yelled into the house.

The brunette boy appeared a moment later swinging his keys around his finger and the three friends piled into the van. As usual, John B drove, JJ rode shotgun, and Jo sat in the back. She'd always been the "third wheel" when it was just the three of them, but she had never cared.

"I'm just saying, I don't understand why you don't at least try with Kiara," JJ continued his rambling as John B drove.

"She's like, "oh, John B!" JJ mocked Kie's voice, causing Jo to give him an odd look.

"Is that what she does?" John B asked bemusedly.

"She's sketching about you diving, and then she kissed you, bro!" JJ continued.

"Wait, What?" Jo shrieked. She leaned forward so her head was in between the two boys. "She kissed you, J.B?"

"On the cheek," John B clarified, giving JJ a pointed look. "It's not like we were makin' out or something."
