"Where is Olivia?" I asked seeing my wife showing up to the kitchen alone.

"She said she ate a big snack so she isn't hungry" Viv explains.

I narrowed my eyes, i didn't understand why that kid won't eat.

"What's wrong babe?" Viv asks me.

"Nothing just work" I said.

Why am I covering up for this kid.. for fucks sake.. I do not care about her.

Now this is the second time she's skipped dinner.

This can't be a habit.

"I'll go check up on her." I said removing my napkin.

"Hey, be nice to the kid" my wife warned.

"I will! Does it look like I would hit a child" I rolled my eyes.

"Well Olivia doesn't like to be touched" Vivian sighs.

I walked up the stairs and I knocked at her door.

there was no response, so I carefully opened the door, and there she was, fast asleep.

Alex do not walk over.

But my body betrayed my brain.

I walked over to her and I saw her eyes were puffy and red.

I don't think I ever looked into Olivia's case.

I just adopted her because of my wife, never really thought anything of it.

I saw a frown upon the child's face.

"What are you doing to me?" I wondered aloud.

I walked away from her bed and walked out of her bedroom.

She doesn't like to eat, that isn't good for her.

I walked back down to the kitchen.

"She's asleep" I said and I picked my napkin back up.

"Right Olivia asked me if she could switch schools are you alright with that?" My wife asked.

"is there a specific reason?" I asked.

"No none at all, I think she just wants a new change since we adopted her and all" Viv says.

"Alright I'll register her to a new school" I said.

"Thank you Alex" she said as she took a sip of her wine.

"Anything for you love" I smiled at her.

"Pwomise you be my meh swide forevah" I held my pinky up.

"I promise with all my heart I will stay with you till death do us apart." My brother linked his pinky into mine as we made a pinky promise.

Shortly afterwards he tucked me in then that's when I heard gunshots.

My brother rushed to me and picked me up.

"Baby I need you to hide and run away alright?" He says as we rush quickly not being seen by the intruders.

I fluttered my eyes opened.

I never understood why he said 'till death do us apart' but now looking back on it.

It felt as if he knew something bad was going to happen...
