Piercing the blanket of night
Warning of death
Feared awakens the sleeping
But no one consoles the girl

Wailing -
Into the darkness
Alone
Unwelcome and foreboding
A warning
An apology
An anguished whimper
Screaming-
Such sweet release
Echoing the fears of heavy hearts
Taunting the hopeful
Punishing the frightened
A peaceful night ending in
Misery
Silence-
Returns swiftly and eerily
Her voice snuffed out by the light of dawn
A new day
Filled with the suffering of strangers
They curse her
But still she cries for them
Every night
As their horrors fill her head
Pain will always be shared
