head-cannon: maeve's needy when sick.
~~~
the school week started off just like any other. you'd spend the weekend at maeve's caravan, which had essentially become part of your routine at this point. you were awake before her, as per usual and were making a start on breakfast. with smiley-faced pancakes being a classic favourite in this house, you stuck to what you knew. utilising your newly developed cooking skills to perfect the recipe. you made them from scratch every time and enjoyed it. since you and maeve officially started dating last summer - you'd embarked on a personal journey of growth in both independence and confidence alike. you didn't notice how much you truly relied on your parents, until you saw all of the things maeve had to do for herself first hand. you seriously were amazed, by her mature nature and adult-like capabilities.
   that she inspired you to better yourself too.
though you were both still young and unsure of exactly what life had in store - you now had each other. to tred those treacherous, untamed waters together; regardless of the obstacles or unknown outcomes. you thrived to be the person maeve could depend on, because she'd never had that before and it broke your heart to see the affect it had left on her. she seriously did deserve loyalty and stability more than anyone - during huge life events, to the little things where she just wanted someone there to tell her it was all okay and to hold her hand. cause deep down, behind her standoffish demeanour and dark-humoured outlook on the world; she was just as vulnerable and sensitive as everyone else - she just refused to show it. to most people anyways, you were the exception.
"mornin' arsehat." you heard her voice crack, as she emerged from her cave-like bedroom at a slow pace; her bare feet padding along the wood floors while she approached you further.
"for the first insult of the morning," you let out lowly, chuckling away to yourself as you witnessed the girl with the baby-pink waves roll her eyes in response. "that was a little less harsh than i was expecting."
"shut up!" she scolded you, raising her voice as she slapped you at the shoulder briefly - before you felt both of her arms snake around your torso from behind, until her palms flattened out on the skin of your stomach.
"you feeling okay?" you asked her instantly, a hint of concern lingering in your tone as you felt her limbs begin to quiver; as clung to your slender form tightly.
it wasn't that you weren't enjoying the sensation of maeve being wrapped around you like this. it was just a little strange. you weren't used to her being so... forward? especially without you prompting at her at all, so you knew something was going on. or maybe there wasn't and you were just overthinking it. that definitely was a plausible possibility. but, when maeve didn't answer you right away it made you wonder whether she was trying to mask something - so you pried a tiny bit further.
"baby?" you queried cautiously, appreciating the gesture when she snuggled her face into the crook of your neck - while you kept a close eye on the sizzling pancakes on the stove.
"yeah, i- i'm fine." she crocked out, before purposefully muffling out a chesty cough into the material of your shirt - as her fingers tried to distract you by tickling at your tender skin. "it's just fucking freezing in here."
"you think so?" you questioned, tilting your head back slightly to meet her eyes; before you flipped the pancakes expertly.
