Synopsis: The Mate Ceremony is the night where all wolves will find their mates. It only happens once a year. Jungwoo and his other friends are beyond excited, but meeting his mate isn't what Jungwoo thought it would be.

The ceremony was about to begin.

All the young wolves ages 16-20 were gathered around the fire in the middle of the pack grounds, ready to meet their mates.

Jungwoo and his friends, Renjun and Chenle were practically beaming in their seats.

It was Renjun and Chenle's first year as they just turned 16.

In the previous year, Jungwoo didn't meet his mate but his older brother, Yuta, comforted him telling him that it was only his first year and that he still has time.

This year, Jungwoo was positive that he would meet his mate. He had that gut feeling.

"So Jungwoo hyung, how does this work?" Chenle asked.

"So basically, when it is midnight, our scents will be released for our mates to sniff us out."

"But if everyone's scent is released, how will we know our mate's scent?"

"You'll just know Renjunnie."

Everyone was chatting with their friends excitedly but they quieted as they saw the pack's Luna, Taeyong, approach the podium.

"Good evening young wolves. As you know, the mating ceremony is about to begin. I wish the best of luck to our packs future wolves."

All the wolves applauded their Luna and eagerly waited for the 2 minutes to go by.

Finally the time came. It was midnight. All the wolves scents were released and they all went to find their mate.

Jungwoo was sniffing around, but none of the scents screamed 'mate' to him. He kept wandering around but got nothing.

Another year without finding his mate.

Jungwoo was on the verge of tears right now but he didn't want to cry until he got home.

No! He didn't want to go home and tell Yuta that he didn't find his mate. He decided to ask if he could stay at Chenle or Renjun's place.

Jungwoo went back to their spot but didn't see the younger omegas. He was looking around for them when he went wide eyed.

Chenle found his mate! It was that young alpha Jisung from his math class. And Renjun found his mates, MATES! He had two alphas, Jaemin and Jeno with him.

Now Jungwoo was crying. He wasn't angry with his friends, he was extremely happy for them. But he was jealous. On their first year they already found their mates.

Jungwoo continued to look around and see that a lot of wolves found their mates this year. Was he the only one?

Before he could think about his decision, he ran. Ran away from the ceremony. He didn't want to be around mates.

He ended up leaving the pack grounds, which is a bad idea since he is an unmated omega, but he couldn't think straight.

He kept running, and by time he stopped, Jungwoo was far beyond the boundaries of his pack.

That made him cry even more. He huddled up under a tree and cried into his knees, hoping that in the morning he could find his way back to the pack.
