Death and suffering surrounds us. Sickness follows everywhere we go and we might think the Lord is not a Lord of healing. But something we must understand as disciples, Christ is ruler of everything. During these days of calamity, I like to reflect on Habakkuk's book. In that book we see the author in distress and seeks an answer to the darkness that surrounds him.
Habakkuk I:
2 O Lord, how long shall I cry for help,
and you will not hear?
Or cry to you "Violence!"
and you will not save?
3 Why do you make me see iniquity,
and why do you idly look at wrong?
Destruction and violence are before me;
strife and contention arise.
4 So the law is paralyzed,
and justice never goes forth.
For the wicked surround the righteous;
so justice goes forth perverted.
During these situations we might think God is silent and he has paused justice. But we forget that the Lord is a Lord of justice always and forever (Matt 28-28,Isaiah 30:18-19). Jesus is sitting on the right hand of the Father and we must trust on His word. Sometimes are lack of trust comes from lack of understanding two main factors: The Gospel of the Kingdom and His sovereignty. If we can't understand the reconciliation between the Father and His creation, we don't understand true biblical relationship. Therefore, it will be impossible to understand His Lordship and kingdom establishment like it is exposed on His Word. Few parts of scripture that make me trust him more and more is this:
Psalm 110
The Lord says to my lord
"Sit at my right hand
until I make your enemies
a footstool for your feet.
Colossians 3:1
Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
Let us seek His Kingdom and put our trust on the Lord.
If as servants we depend on His Lordship, He will provide all the answers needed. God cares for His children. A great example that determines this is the answer given to Habakkuk:
Habakkuk I:
Look among the nations, and see;
wonder and be astounded.
For I am doing a work in your days
that you would not believe if told.
6 For behold, I am raising up the Chaldeans,
that bitter and hasty nation,
who march through the breadth of the earth,
to seize dwellings not their own.
7 They are dreaded and fearsome;
their justice and dignity go forth from themselves.
8 Their horses are swifter than leopards,
more fierce than the evening wolves;
their horsemen press proudly on.
Their horsemen come from afar;
they fly like an eagle swift to devour.
9 They all come for violence,
all their faces forward.
They gather captives like sand.
10 At kings they scoff,
and at rulers they laugh.
They laugh at every fortress,
for they pile up earth and take it.
11 Then they sweep by like the wind and go on,
guilty men, whose own might is their god!
Everything that comes from the Lord is beautiful and brings glory to himself. Maybe in times like these you might be receiving an answer and not the one you are looking for. But as Habakkuk does in the end of the book that should be your mentality. Trust in His words and His sovereign will. Sickness and tragedies are not accidents which God got surprised by it. He's sustaining all creation in His hands. Rejoice and give all those burdens to Him. Submit to His Lordship and Let our mental state be in the Will of God. Let us consider and rejoice like Habakkuk in chapter 3:
Though the fig tree should not blossom,
nor fruit be on the vines,
the produce of the olive fail
and the fields yield no food,
the flock be cut off from the fold
and there be no herd in the stalls,
18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord;
I will take joy in the God of my salvation.
19 God, the Lord, is my strength;
he makes my feet like the deer's;
he makes me tread on my high places.

Let us trust on the Lord and may we don't adapt according to our emotions. Obedience is confrontation to our worldly fears.
