Ruby Redfort was sitting on the roof, a glass of banana milk beside her. She was gazing into the deep night sky, absent-mindedly reciting the constellations to herself, to try and take her mind off it.
But she couldn't. No matter how hard she tried, the events of that day were still imprinted fresh in her mind, although it happened a week ago. Sleeping was out of the question since she knew all her dreams would be about him. He wasn't just anyone. He was a certain skinny, blonde-haired, brown-eyed boy.
Flashback to the day, a week ago:
Ruby was sitting on the tree in Amster Street (which they would often leave codes for each other in) with Clancy, discussing the recent events at school.
"Did you see Bugwart's face!", Clancy spluttered.
"Roach's too," Ruby laughed," All because of a MOUSE!"
"I'm sure it belongs to Red," Clancy mused, "Or maybe Mouse, that would make more sense, I guess."
They chatted about many things (school, Spectrum, etc.) until it grew dark. Suddenly Clancy groaned. "Ugh, sorry Rube, gotta go."
Ruby frowned. "What's up?"
"I forgot, my dad has this ambassadorial thing and he wants us all to be there, smiling like a happy family", Clancy sighed.
"'S'okay, you can come round tomorrow, watch a few toons. All's well,", Ruby smiled. Clancy really worried too much.
"Thanks, Rube", Clancy said. Ruby was about to reply with "No problem, buster", but she was interrupted by Clancy's lips on hers. She took a sharp intake of breath. The kiss was gentle, filled with love and gratitude. Fireworks exploded in Ruby's stomach and her heart was beating faster than a runaway train. After what seemed like forever, Clancy pulled away smiling. He climbed down the tree and got on his bike.
"See you tomorrow!", He yelled and rode towards the Crew mansion. Ruby was left sitting on the branches of the tree, breathless, with her cheeks burning and her heart pounding.
