May God Bless You on Your Long Journey Home

I sit on the edge of his hospital bed

Watching as his breathing is labored

Taking his last breath he smiles at me

I whisper in his ear, “May God bless you on your long journey home.”

He stands on a balcony of heaven’s palace

Looking down at us as we mourn him

He smiles trying to let us know that everything’s ok now

May God bless you on your long journey home.

He looks out a window, watching his memories pass like a motion picture

He watches you get older and smiles

He watches as you have your own kids and you make your own mistakes

May God bless you on your long journey home.

He gently pushes you in the right direction when you try to go the other way

He watches as you start getting older

He sits on the edge of your hospital bed, like you once did for him

And he whispers, “May God bless you on your long journey home.”
