The Love of Two

Her heart beats faster

Can he hear it?

It sounds so loud

To her

He stands next to her

Her face goes hot

She whispers something

But the noise is too loud for him to hear

Her eyes follow him

Love shines in them.

Years pass nothing changes

Her heart beats faster but not as fast

He still can’t hear it

It’s not as loud as it was

He’s still next to her

Her face’s heat is fading

Her whispers are to quiet

He couldn’t hear her

Even if he wanted to

Her eyes barely follow him

They’ve strayed to someone new.

He glances at her

She shines with something beautiful

His heart beats faster

He prays she can’t hear it

Her eyes shine with happiness when he’s there

So do his

He wishes for something to change

But he doesn’t know what

Her eyes move from him

He knows what it is now

Her love for him never changes

But she’s pushed them away

They’re still there they will never go away

They’re slowly shifting to someone new

He makes her smile but not like he could

Everything he does isn’t like how he does it

She misses him a lot

But knows he will never be hers

They meet one day

After years of being apart

The love is still there

He has no one to love but her

She has had her heart broken too many times

They wish for love

They wish for each other

She whispers again

This time he hears her

He smiles at her, love in his eyes

“I love you”

They whisper their love

And for the first time

They listened and they heard what they had wished for.

Many, many years later

A mother whispers a love story to her child softly

She leaves when the child is asleep

Going to their bedroom

Where the love of her life a waits

They smile and whisper, as they did before

“I love you.”
