Nessa and I were at the beach for only a week. And that week was where most of my favorite memories are. I went to see Charlie compete in some surfing competitions. He liked to watch me draw on the beach. I wanted to stay there forever, but of course, I had to leave to finish the last bit of college I had left, and I had just gotten a once in a lifetime opportunity to do an internship for art. A huge connection I couldn't pass up.
Art has been a passion of mine as I grew up. I never truly believed I could live off it, but with the internship, I would be able to live my dream. Of course, it was a dream that was shaken by a boy. He was handsome, kind, generous, and so much more. But I knew I couldn't get attached, not with just a week. No, it had to be longer for it to really be love. So I convinced myself it was like a high school crush that I had to get over because of career differences.
A strong hatred light throughout myself for how I left, but it was necessary to make Charlie not worry about me. If he did, it would make it so much harder to say goodbye, and to leave those hopeless blue-green eyes behind would be...irresistible. I told him I was leaving the day after I really was. He understood that I needed to finish college and all but, I never wanted to mention the internship. I knew it would be bittersweet because, although it was a great opportunity, I didn't know how long we'd be apart. So to face that problem, I wrote a letter instead with a little drawing to go with it.
Nessa agreed with the part about it being only a week 'together', but she saw that the chemistry between us could be so much more. She didn't like my decision on how I told Charlie, but she respected it and didn't tell either of the boys. With that, we left to go back to college.
I had thought I'd never see Charlie again. I was wrong, but at the time, I couldn't imagine our paths crossing again. It was like wishing for a dream to come true.
