I walked towards the voices I hear and hid myself in the rather dense vegetation. I watched as a man around my age or maybe younger with blond hair and green eyes look petrified at the rather burly man holding a knife about to stab him.
He’s such an idiot. Can’t he even defend himself? Such a troublesome idiot. He’s kinda cute though…
The man picked the guy up and held the knife at his throat and started to threaten him.
“Give it to me!’ The man shouted.
“I’d rather die!”
“So be it”
The man then raised his knife aiming to plunge it in his heart. I grabbed my whip from my belt and used it to flung the knife out of his hand. The man cradled his injured hand in pain and I stepped out to reveal myself. He glared at me and without thinking charged at me.
What a blockhead. Well I guess this makes it easier.
As he neared me, I formed a stance and moved to the side as soon he was close enough. Making his face slam into the trunk of the tree. I smirked as the other guy tried to hold back his laughter but failed. That angered him even more. He stood, grabbed his knife and started to swing it at me.
I kept dodging while trying not to laugh at how reckless he is being.“I’m going to be late at this rate. Great job Evie. Act like a saint and rescue random people. You don’t even what the guy did. Heck! He could’ve murdered someone and here you are being an accomplice.”
While I was busy chastising myself, I almost didn’t notice the knife swinging at my head a few centimeters away. I managed to evade it but it caught my hood and removed it from my head, revealing my identity. I doubt they know me though. I looked at them lazily.
Both having shocked expressions on their faces. Running a hand through my hair, I used his display of vulnerability and punched him in the face which knocked him out cold.
I faced the other guy who somehow looks panicked. He began to move backwards. As I stopped in front of him, his back hit the back of a tree. I have him cornered. In his eyes I see fear yet his ears and cheeks are red.Wait…….Is he flustered?!!
I kept my face blank although deep inside I wanted to laugh. I back away a little and saw him looked….relived??? He cleared his throat and started to speak.
‘umm…..I-I wanted t-to thank you f-for helping. M-my name is Cerim. W-what is yours???”
I was about to reply when I saw a symbol on his right left chest. It was the symbol for the Kingdom of Azafer. I hesitated and he must have seen it.
“Come on! I need to know your name to properly thank my savior.”
He beamed at me and his green eyes sparkling. I sighed.
Might as well…..
“My name is Evelyn. You can call me Evie for short.”
He smiled and thanked me. It was interrupted by the sound of hooves against the ground and a voice of a male calling for Cerim. He smiled at me sheepishly. I had already turned around and prepared to leave when he spoke once more.
“I got to go. We’ll see each other again won’t we Evie?”
I paused and turned to look at him.
“Maybe.”
Before he could say anything more, I disappeared as the footsteps got closer. I went back on track to where I was heading. I looked at my watch as it showed it was 9:00.
Great. I’m gonna be late and probably get lectured.
I sighed and ran as fast as I can to my destination.
