            It had been July, 2012.

It had been the week I’d be spending with my parents in our lake house, with my siblings gone at camp.

My biggest concern was, what the hell was I going to do with those five days? I’m close with my parents but I knew I’d get bored after a while. I had my dog, Bear, to keep me company, but no teenage company. I had attempted to bring my friends up to the house but they were all busy, so I was left alone with my mom and dad.

I had been starting to realize how lame my summer was- save for a few events in late June and earlier that month- and was starting to get really worried. I’d yet to have Ciosa up to the house, and was annoyed because her summer job and her family’s move were getting in the way. I was now faced with a one week alone, until my mom got a two-week old call.

Maggie Landers, a hostess my mom had started talking to last summer at one of her favorite restraunts in town and had exchanged numbers with, had called around July 4th, saying that her two sons were looking to take my siblings and I to the shipwrecks that were in the bay south of my house. They had easy access to the bay, living in a summerhouse on the shores and her sons had time to explore and find the supposed wrecks hiding in the depths of the Lake Michigan-based bay.

The previous summer I had learned that Maggie’s sons knew where the wrecks were, and had begged my mom to call her to ask if her sons could show me, but summer had ended before I knew it and the chance slipped out of my fingers.

So obviously when I heard that her sons were looking to take me and my siblings, I jumped at the chance. Except my siblings wouldn’t be able to see them. Only me.

Mom called Maggie back and left a message. Maggie called back the next day early in the morning while I was fast asleep, and talked to my mom. They made a plan to have Maggie’s oldest son, Avery, only a year older than me, take me to see the shipwrecks that day. It had been his only day off from work.

I was shocked. I had never met Avery. The previous summer I had met his younger brother, Ethan, a few times, as well as his older sister, Tricia, and had only heard about him. But now I was faced with what seemed to be a full day out on the waters of the bay in search of shipwrecks with a boy.

Now to some girls this situation might be a very, very big deal, while to others, it’s nbd. I was one of those girls who looked at the situation as a huge deal. Why? Well I think you can guess why.

I was your average shy, never-been-kissed girl. Hell I felt pathetic sometimes because of it. And it’s not like I’m some-ugly-ass-shy-girl. Like I said, I’m average or a tad above it you could say. But when faced with a full day of shipwreck hunting with a potentially hot/cute guy, I freaked.

            My solution? Calling Ciosa.

“Hey gurl!” Ciosa’s voice was excited as she picked up. Probably because her summer-day-job consisted of working in an office.

“Hi, um so guess what I’m doing today?”

“Uh I don’t know, tanning on a beautiful Wisconsin beach, and playing fetch with Bear?”

“Haha, no. I’m going to see shipwrecks.”

“Oooh! Sounds like fun. I wish I could go, but you know, I’m kinda stuck here.”
