Kagome hummed as she followed Tronor into the stables, she had woken up early and had a quick breakfast before going outside to the stable. Tronor was already out, he had to take care of the seahorses before he headed to the palace.
"So what do you want me to do?" Kagome inquired as she looked at the seahorses. They were big, a little taller than her. She was a little weary of them, but she was going to try to think of them like regular horses.
"You can grab the feed, they get only a cup each of it. They each have a bucket hanging in the corner of their stalls you put it into." Tronor instructed Kagome who nodded. He pointed to the big barrel that had a cup hanging on the side.
She quickly made work and fed the seahorses, there were only four of them, so it didn't take long for her to do. When she was done she stood by the last seahorse, it nudged forward in its stall so its nose bumped into her arm.
"Aren't you friendly." Kagome murmured as she gently pet the seahorse. It felt different than she was expecting. Its skin was ruff and hard, but wasn't unpleasant to touch. It was just different.
"That is Zarna, she is our oldest here." Tronor voiced as he swam up next to her, putting down a bucket on the side of the stall, "She is also one of our most friendly."
Kagome gave a hum and gave the seahorse a fanal pet, before turning to the merman beside her. He was watching her carefully, as if trying to figure something out. She just didn't know what he was trying to find.
"Is there something wrong?" Kagome asked, curious of what he was trying to find out about her. He could just ask her, that would be the quickest way. She would be honest too.
"Nothing." He shook his head, his eyes softening as he looked down at her. She tilted her head not believing him, but wasn't going to call him out on it.
"If you say so...." She gave a small smile, as she looked around, "Is there anything else you want me to do?" Kagome had expected to do more than just help feed them.
"Not today, I was going to have you help me give them some exercise, but I don't have time for that today..." He sighed, making Kagome wonder what would make him not have the time if he usually did it.
"Is there a reason why we don't have time?" She would be fine helping give them exercises, but she had a feeling it would be like riding a horse. She would probably need assistance if she did hell though. She had no clue on what she was doing.
"I am needed in the palace. There are going to be visitors from the atlantic...." He trailed off eyes connecting to her own.
"The King is trying to set up his son.....much to the annoyance to the Prince." He sounded amused to Kagome, but she shrugged it off.
"He doesn't like any of the mermaids?" Kagome didn't know why, the mermaids couldn't be too bad. Was the prince just picky or something along those lines?
"...No he doesn't" Tronor shook his head, a small smirk coming to his lips, "They tend to be after the throne, and since the Prince is the only male,...he is the one who will become King next."
Kagome understood that the same thing happened in books she read. That and it happened with higher class families in Japan all the time. It wasn't abnormal for a woman to marry just because the male was well off and had money.
"I can help out another morning then." She wouldn't mind spending time with the seahorses, they seemed cute.
"It is just going to be a busy couple days, after it calms down I would greatly appreciate your help" Tronor smiled at the young mermaid, and couldn't help taking a liking to her. She was kind and seemed to not care who the young Prince was. He had a feeling she didn't know yet from how she was acting.
"Now why don't you go get ready for your adventure, from what I have heard Arel is one to cause a little chaos." That was putting it lightly. The prince was one to cause mischief and not always the amusing kind of mischief.
"Thank you!" She smiled at Tronor and swam off. She had a feeling today was going to be interesting if people knew what kind of adventures Arel went on. She couldn't wait to see what he had planned.
