Spot 1 is Unlivable

The climate within the spot has reached all time extremes and is consistent in its inconsistency. Upon visiting the first known anomaly, I've discovered that the land had become barren and not even an animal could live here. I thankfully had geared up enough and went in only to find husks of the places caught under the spots. People had died in their sleep from the shock brought on by the sudden changes in atmosphere. Those that were caught just at the edge thankfully evacuated fast enough but they've lost their minds.
They screamed at the spot throughout the day, their equilibrium was so distorted they'd run into solid, grounded objects, and they would even scream at the sight of each other. When I left to stay the night in a town close by, there was a smell in the air that continuously changed. It went from vanilla or caramel to rotten eggs or moldy socks. Some of the people in the town told me not to look into it and upon asking one of the towns political leaders all he had to say was, "We've had people look into it and they'd change." I had to do a bit more digging after that because he refused to give me names.
Those that had looked into it lost themselves, for lack of better words. The doctors told me that it would start with mumbled conversations with no one and escalate from there. The line by er those people stared, the more they resembled the locals from under the spot. When I went to go back under the spot, they had set up a line of electrical fences around it and the perimeter towns had cooperated to put up their own. They even set warnings all over on what to do if you come across a local, not to stare into the abyss of the spot, and what to keep on you at all times. Everyone has a bag with a change of clothes.
When I got back home I waited for the news to say something, anything, about the spot. Nothing. They reported nothing on it. People had died; it was a catastrophe and they kept it quiet.
Set from latitude to longitude, this is how big the spot is.
Width: 40.6 to -122.4
