just a young girl, a mere 19 years old. her life was mostly normal. two parents, 3 brothers and one sister. she was a college sophmore at Penn State, just starting the fall semester. while studying to be a lawyer, she worked a job at a corporate law firm keeping the books. her career was promising, but came to a roaring halt when her life was drastically ended.
to celebrate the start of new year, she and her friends went out. now, this wasnt the typical college student outing; there were no parties and no under-age drinking, just driving around town and listening to songs over the car stereo. they were enjoying life, reminiscing about the past, living in the presnt and excited about the future. but little did she know, her future was a lot shorter than anticipated.*one fatefull night*
after perusing the streets of Philadelphia until the ealry hours of the morning, the crew was more than tired. they made their rounds, dropping them off at their residences, one memeber at a time. since the car was hers, she was the only one left after hugging the last girl goodbye in front of her dorm.
the radio was playing softly in the background, the windows were rolled down as the wind blew through her hair. peace; thats exactly what she felt in the moment. with the though of the rest of her long life ahead of her floating in her head, one terrible moment took that all away from her.
after the accident, she was rushed into the emergency room, blood gushing from the gashes along her body.
"prep the OR, we got a car crash victim, who has lost too much blood, is bleeding intern, possible brain damage, broken or fractured ribs and a broken humerus. lets go, people! we got lives to save!" the docotr announced urgently, while wheeling her in on a gurney from the ambulance. they had no idea if she was going to make it, given the injuries she sustained, but theyd be damned if they didnt try.
after 4 grueling hours on the table, she was stitched uo and bandaged properly. now laying in her hospital bed, being pumped full of fluids and pain medication, she fought for her life.
the surface wounds were taken care of, but she had suffered some serious brain damage. there was no telling how far gone she was, until she woke up. but in the perilous fight to stay alive, her body was weak, and her brain didnt stand a chance, so with onl breath, she succumbed to her fate, an inevitable death.
"im so sorry ma'am, she never woke up" the doctors told her family as the arrived in the hospital. "we did everything we could. im sorry for your loss."
the news practically shattered the hearts of those 6 people, standing there blank faced, just trying so hard to process that she was gone, and wasnt coming back.*the funeral*
"she was the best sister ive ever known, my bestest friend since we were kids, and my biggest supprter since day one. she will be greatly missed and forever loved, but never forgotten. i hope you all leave here, with her face in your mind, and her memory in your hearts. you will never be forgotten, my dear sister. we will make you proud , and we'll see you up there." her sister delivered a beautiful speech, to remind the funeral-goers of the amazing young woman that she was. as touching as it was, the words "up there" were not were she was headed.
*literally, in hell*
she was now seated at the head of a long table, so long that she couldnt see the other end. as she looked around the room she was in, she coulnt see anything. the light from the candlesticks in the middle of the tables faded out into a black void of nothingness.
suddenly, footsteps could be heard and a tall man with a lean figure and sleek hair emerged from the shadows.
"hello, dear. welcome to hell. im Damien, its a pleasure to meet you." he said with a devilishly handsome smile. his words confushed her profusely.
"hell? really? im actually in hell? why am i in hell? i was a good person. i did everything so i wouldnt end up here. so why am i here? what did i do to deserve to be punished?" the questions rolled off her tongue as they went through her head. she didnt understand why this is where she ended up, but she knew that this isnt were she wanted to be, not one bit.
"no need to fret, child. you are not here to be punished, you are the punishment." the words he spoke only made her more confused. he noticed the expression on her face and chuckled deeply. "follow me, ill show you what i mean." he turned on his heel and walked into the darkness. as you stood up and moved toward him, the light in the room expanded, revealing him standing there holding a door open. you walked through and came to a hallway with darkwood finsihes and red accents of color. the sconces were lit by fire. there were doors up and down the hallway, almost as if she was standing in some demented hotel.
he began walking down the hallway, and she snapped out of her daze and caught up with him. she had so many questions, but didnt dare ask. occasionally, a door would rattle with the sounds of a scream coming from within or it would open and someone would go in or out. they all had the same fire in their eyes and mischievous smirk, almost as if that was the mark of a torcherer. they were no doubt the henchen of satan, his loyal demons.
"dont worry, dear girl. youll become like us in no time." it was as if he knew all the questions she was thinking.
"like us? what does that mean?" her brows furrowed.
"youll be immune to the screams, used to the pleads for mercy that is never granted, and able to stomach the pain that is inflicted here. before you know it, itll just be a normal day in hell for you." this scared her. it was not at all what she had expected.
he came to a stop outside of a door. "this is where i leave you for a bit. behind this door, you will find the man responsible for putting you in an early grave. he deserves no mercy, so dont give him any. ill be back soon, do your worst." he grabbed the door knob and pushed it open, allowing her to enter.
she tentatively walked in and saw a man sitting in a chair with a single light hanging above him. she heard the door shut behind her. she put two and two together and realised what exactly she here for; she was here to torture him. as she walked closer, he opened his eyes and stared hers. as soon as the contact was established, rage filled her.
it was a type of anger she had never felt before. she could feel it in her toes, to the end of her fingers. more than anything, she suddenly wanted him to hurt, to feel the pain she had caused her. not just physically, but mentally. he was the reason her future was over, the reason why she woulder see her friends or family again.
she was never one for violence, so the psychological approach seemed more fitting.
"dont think i dont know who you are, dont think i dont know what you did."
when she spoke, the voice that came out was nothing she recognized. it was laced with hatred.
"who are you?" the man questioned.
"im the girl you killed! im the reason youre in hell. well, its not my fault that you were a coward when faced with a choice. you brought this upon youself."
"it was you. oh no, oh god" his voice shook.
"he doesnt listen down here, its just you and me."
"please dont hurt me. im so sorry. im so sorry, just please dont hurt me."
he deserves no mercy, so dont give him any. the words wrang in her head.
"oh im going to hurt you, but im not a fan of violence. so tell me, whyd you kill me?"
"it was an accident, i didnt mean to." she leaned forward and put her hands on the chair arms, getting close to his face.
do your worst.
"tell me! tell me why, you bastard! what was so important that i had to die for it!" she bellowed, getting more enveloped by anger as every minute passed
"i went out for a drink, at some corner bar. up until it happened, i drank my life away. after i was completely wasted i got in my car to go home. i was driving and wasnt paying attention, by the time i did, it was too late to stop it. thats when i collided with your car. yours was totalled, but mine had survived. i didnt want to get into any trouble, so i ran." his words fueled the fiire burning inside her.
"keep going" she gritted through her teeth.
"i drove away, i was scared, but after that, i had sobered up som i realized what i had done. i was overwhelmed with fear and guilt that i once again lost focus. this time, my car got wrapped around a tree, and i remember the pain i was in, up until the moment my body gave in."
"so thats it? alcohol and fear? thats why you left me there to die? you didnt call someone or check to see if i was alive! no, you just drove oke a coward. i had a fucking future! a promising career in law! a good family! and even greater friends! but that was all taken away from me, because some asshole like you decided to leave me there to die!" she screamed louder than she thought possible. "how fucking pathetic? alcohol and fear, thats just pathetic."she turned and stormed towards the door, throwing it open and slamming it behind her.
she walked briskly down the hallway, in search of the guy who brought her here. she had begun to cool down, but the hatred was ingrained in her heart and mind now. she passed by a large mirror in the hallway.
she stopped in front of it. she examined her reflection in it. thats when she noticed it.
the fire behind her eyes and the devilish gaunt of her face. there she was standing in front of the mirror, becoming just like them. heartless and cold.
she was now a torcherer, a henchmen, one of his loyal demons.
