Someone died at my school yesterday… It was pretty intense. I honestly didn’t know her that well, but I tried to. A truck came crashing through the wall of the upper Citadel, just barely missing me. I was lucky to have escaped with my life.
We all got sent home early because of the tragedy as police and parents were called. There’ll be an assembly about it tomorrow, but everyone only has one afternoon to mourn. But, despite the initial shock, things are actually going pretty well for me, personally.
I walked through the school gates and everything seemed so different; the skies were clear and the birds were singing. I felt a completely different aura surrounding me, nothing like how I felt yesterday. This must be what the deaf feel like after getting their first hearing aid, or the blind getting glasses if those even work for them. I walked into the library to see all of my friends crowded around a table, speaking in hushed voices.
As I approached the table, Micah made a not-so-subtle gesture towards me, and they abruptly wrapped up their conversation. I approach the table confidently despite this, intending to keep the group positive with the natural charisma I've been told I have.
“Hey guys!” I greeted everyone. Everyone smiled and greeted me, well,,, everyone apart from Anabella. Anabella seemed a little down in the dumps, I know she was close with the girl who died and I could tell that she was upset (I’m such an empath).I wanted to comfort her, but I predicted how she’d react and acted accordingly, deciding it was better to do nothing at all, even if doing something would’ve made the situation better. I sat beside her anyway, and everyone at the table looked at me with an expression of intense respect. I could hear people at surrounding tables discussing the events that had transpired yesterday and I sat, contemplating them myself.
Why had only Naemh been killed, even though the truck’s blow to the building was so devastating?
