"Can I have this, Mommy?" Baby Rue asked, pointing at a book.
"No, Honey," Her mother, Danielle, replied.
"But Mommy!" Rue whined.
"Okay, fine, my little flower," Danielle sighed and put the baby book in her cart.
Rue smiled and ran into the next isle. Her mother tried to run after her, but a man got in her way. "Rue! Come back!" Danielle cried, but by now, Rue was lost. She slipped out into the parking lot and somehow survived it.
"Mommy? Mommy!" Rue shouted as she walked around. She saw a man in an alley. "Mommy gone," She told him.
"What? Who are you, little pumpkin?" The man asked.
Rue tried to say her name, but ended up saying 'Woo' instead.
"Woo? I think you meant Lou. Huh, Lou? Is your name Lou?" The man asked. Then he added, "My name is no good, but it's Daniel. Are you gonna call me Papa or something?"
"Dan-wal" Rue exclaimed.
"That works, too. Where you from, Lou?" Daniel asked Lou.
"Huh?" asked Rue.
"Where ya from, Lou? Aren't you hungry?" The grubby man asked her.
"Food!" Begged Rue.
"Let's go, Lou. There is someone I want you to meet," Daniel said as he got up. He started walking toward a building and Bay Rue followed slowly.
A lot happened after that. Rue met more people, and they raised her until she ran away, forgetful of the mercy Daniel show her. She now lives in the shadows, scared and alone... Or so we thought...
