School is long and drawn out, I stare out of the cafeteria window as the rain pours down outside. dark clouds loom over us, darkening the small town of Arlo.
I lay my cheek flat on the cool lunch table, tracing shapes on the pale yellow granite top with my finger.
" you ok?" Alex whispers in my ear, his breath smells like citrus, and I welcome the familiar scent.
" yea, i just couldn't sleep last night" I mumble, my eyes no on Lorette and Griffin who are arguing over whether curly fries or french fries are better.
" how come?" he leans on his elbow and puts a single fry in his mouth.
"dunno" I mumble, tracing a heart on the table.
" does that mean your going straight home today?" his eyes are full of concern as he nibbles on another fry.
" yea but I'll come by after I get some sleep, we can have a sleepover and go to school together in the morning" I put one hand on his shoulder to assure him.
" good" he smirks and I snatch one of his fries.
" wow the lunch lady kicked it up a notch" I reach for a handful of his fries.
" hey, get you own" Alex teases, pulling the tray away from me.
I frown dramatically and he sighs and hands me the tray back.
" your lucky your cute" he shakes his head with a big goofy smile plastered on his face.
" i know" I giggle as I eat another fry.
The bell rings and students rise from the chair and swarm to the cafeteria exit. Me and Lorette both groan and roll our eyes at the same time and put our heads on the table.
" come on" Griffin sighs and wraps his arm around Lorette, lifting her up and with one last wave to us they walk to their 5th period.
" their cute" Alex chuckles, leaning against the table that I'm still sitting at.
" yea" I agree, reluctantly sitting up and standing up and removing myself from the table.
" let's go sleepy head" He drapes his arm over my shoulders and I lean into him.
the rest of the day continued to drag out. the rest of my classes consisted of me falling asleep and getting awoken by the teacher scolding me.
I wasn't lying when I said couldn't sleep. I really couldn't I had so much on my mind. that's why last night I snuck out and ran around the town until my lungs couldn't take it anymore, it took everything i had to not go and visit him again. I didn't want to see him again anyway. but I can't shake the lingering curiosity deep inside me. I've spending the last 48 hours wrestling with my thoughts. and the ones concerning him always seem to win, but I push them back down.
the final bell rings and I lift my face from my desk, rubbing my tired eyes.
I walk out of the class room, ignoring the disappointed gaze from my Spanish teacher.
" wow you look wrecked" Griffin laughs as he comes up to me from his english class which is write next to spanish.
" thanks Griff you look great too" I roll my eyes and he chuckles at my sarcasm.
" it's funny you just noticed now, probably to busy making googly eyes at Lorette" I smirk and he blushes.
" what can I say" he dramatically sighs and puts his hands in the back pockets of his pants as we walk down the hall.
