Chapter 1
“It’s the 1st Brenda it is almost time for you to be off to school”, Mr. King yelled.
“I know dad”, Brenda answered. Brenda is a young African American girl that is about to be a freshman in college. She is an attractive young girl with smooth silky brown skin with a small gap in her teeth. Her dad is her rock she can’t move or go anywhere without him. Brenda has always been a quiet girl away from home. Her dad was and still is strict about school and isn’t big on the social aspect of life. Brenda is an anti- social person and that could cause problems in college.
Days go by, and the weeks go by and Brenda can see her time at home is slowly leaving, as she prepares to go to Maryland University. She will be majoring in forensic psychology as she plans be in the criminal justice field just how Mr. King, her dad was. Mr. King was a forensic psychologist and dealt with that part of the law. Mr. King is a tall dark skinned man with a bushy beard that covers his entire facial hair area. Mr. King also has a bad leg that he hurt in a serious 2 car accident that killed the other driver. The accident involved a drunk driver. In the accident Brenda’s mother was severely hurt and was hospitalized, and as of right now she remains hospitalized due to injuries.
It’s the first day of college, “Well, dad it’s time to say goodbye”. Brenda says.
“I’m going to miss you Brenda I really am, it’s going to be different around the house with you not around”. Brenda’s dad cries.
“You will be okay dad it’s not the end of the world”. Brenda pleaded.
“I know it’s just going to be hard to see you go, and I’m just going to miss you so much you won’t understand you have to realize”. I been with you your whole life you’re my only daughter it tough on me right know”. “Can I help you with your bags” asked Mr. King.
Brenda quickly responds with a “no”. Mr. King’s face seemed stunned with the answer Brenda gave him. You could see the demeanor on his face change.
“Well okay then I guess, I will see you later”.
“See you later dad”. Brenda and her dad hug goodbye. She is now on her own for the first time she is like a bird that just got pushed out the nest. She will either sink or swim and she knows it.
“Hi I’m Troy can I help you with your bags and take them to your room”, Asked Troy. Brenda is baffled by the fact that this guy came up to talk to here. Here stands a tall handsome brown skin young man with two diamond stud earrings in and a tattoo on his neck saying “God blessed me” in cursive writing. Brenda can’t believe that this handsome tall strong built man is talking to here. She stutters and says, “are... are you ta... Ta... Talking to me”.
Troy smiles as she stutters and he answered back in a sarcastic way, “ha-ha... Yes I am”. As, Brenda stands there she can’t help but be surprised. She looks over her shoulder and she can see her dad turning onto the main parkway.
“Yes, please I would love some help”. Troy begins to help Brenda with her bags.
“What’s your name”, Troy asked.
“My name is Brenda and you said yours is Troy correct”, questioned Brenda.
“Correct” Troy answered back. They continue to walk and talk and by the time they got to Brenda’s dorm house they were practically friends. “What’s your room number”, Troy asked.
“Room 212 west win, I really appreciate you helping me with my bags”. Brenda confessed.
“No problem at all anytime you need my help or want to do anything just let me know my number is 555-7835”. Troy requested. When Troy gave Brenda his number her face lit up with joy and amazement she couldn’t help but smile.
“Well thank you and this is my number 555-3674 and again thank you for helping me with my bags and making me feel welcomed”. Brenda added.
“No problem and you’re welcomed; I’ll text you once I get settled on my side of the school”. “Have a good day and I’ll see you later”. Troy replied. Troy seemed to have a glow to him Brenda noticed and it made her feel warm inside.
“You too and see you later”, Brenda replied. Troy walked out and was on his way, Brenda closed the door and started smiling, and couldn’t stop she was filled of joy. She has her first college friend and he might be a little bit more in the future she fills. She starts to unpack her bags and fold her clothes into the drawers and put her jackets in the closet. As, she does this she continues to smile from her earlier interactions with Troy. “I am at the University of Maryland I made it out of Ocean city; I’m my own person now”. She says to herself in her dorm as she lies on her bed. She is happy to be away from home finally. Brenda fades of to sleep as she lies their on her bed. She wakes up to her phone going off and seeing it was Troy texting her “hi”. She checks the time and sees that it is a quarter till seven she decides to get up and finish settling in. She and Troy begin texting back and forth as she continues to settle in and make her dorm the way she wants, because she will soon have a roommate but doesn’t know when her roommate will be coming. As, she finished setting up the room her dad calls to see how she is doing she tells him everything is good and she is okay. Once Brenda got off the phone she sees a text from Troy
