"Come on, D!" I dodge the arms of a highly intoxicated Brad. His tall frame staggers into the wall clumsily. I skimper away, tugging the sides of my jacket around me. Bodies glowing with a rainbow of neon colors bounce around me.
Why did I even come here?
My boyfriend Brad, the clumsy drunk, coaxed me into it. Now, all I want to do is leave. I tug down the sides of my really tight dress and make my way up the stairs of the house. The music is somewhat lower up there, but the bass still pulsates through the house like a heartbeat.
I close the door of one of the bathrooms and lock it. I pull out my phone, calling my best friends, Vivian and Iana. Neither of them answer and I want to cry. We drove here with one of Brad's friends, so I have no real ride home until they are through partying.
I tuck my phone into my pocket, knowing that I definitely cannot call my parents. They're in Milan and they think I'm at home. This is what I get for being a teenage girl.
I walk to the bathroom window, pushing it open to breathe air that isn't tainted with alcohol. The windless night is pure black and I can barely see anything in the dense forest surrounding the house we're at. I rest my head on my arm and watch the moon.
Sometimes, I wish I could just be apart of the night. I could glow with the moon and have the pleasure of watching over such peaceful places as this one, even when annoying teens party and spill beer all over it.
If I said something like this to my parents, they would call a psychiatrist. If I told Brad he would would dial up my parents, and request I see a psychiatrist. It's like they don't have dreams other than for monetary success. There is more to this Earth than money and death, I know there is. It has to be, right?
"Help!" A loud cry and an earsplitting scream erupts from the trees. I tense up, hoping that I'm hallucinating. I train my eyes on the forest and almost pass out when my insane thoughts are confirmed. Drew Vorhees, the school player, is darting from the forest shirtless. I open my mouth to call to him, but immediately shut up when I see what's chasing him.
With full force, a wolf, the color of the night sky, snatches him up like he weighs nothing. Blinking my eyes for confirmation, I am frozen as I watch the wolf's teeth dig into Drew's muscular torso. Blood is thrown every where as he swings him left & right like a chew toy. Drew screams, but I know the party-goers can't hear him. Because of the loud pulse of my own heartbeat, I can't hear him either.
That- that- that did not just hap-
A howl sounds from the forest, causing goosebumps to rise on my arms, and several other wolves emerge. They are all heading for the party. Terrified, I duck down and cover my mouth to keep myself from screaming. I slap the light off and crouch by the window.
That's when I hear it.
The screams.
The music stops.
I peak out the window, watching as a few people dart to their cars. But, their efforts are in vain as wolves take hold of them effortlessly and drag them back kicking & screaming into the building. Wolves are watching from the borders of the forest and I duck my head back down.
The cries.
The feet attempting to climb the stairs.
A loud slam against the wall makes me jump. I am unable to stop the endless flow of tears from my eyes.
The banging on the walls.
The loud growling.
'Oh, God. Oh, God. Oh, God. Please, dear Lord in heaven..I know I don't talk to you often enough but please.. I am begging you. Please, don't let me die here.
I hear feet climbing the stairs.
I grab the steel towel railing, hoping to create a makeshift weapon. It's the only thing I've got in this bathroom. A scream for help erupts not far from the door and I jump. Tears are streaming down my face because it sounds like Vivian.
I'm practically bawling when the door of the bathroom is busted down. I crouch next to the bathtub, my eyelids are glued shut. I don't want to see this happen.
I hear the sound of movement...paws...on the floor and I know it's one of them. It approaches me and I can't seem to stop crying. I just keep my eyes shut and pray. I can practically feel it looming over me.
Suddenly, I feel the light, almost gentle, touch of something wet...like a dog's nose upon my cheek. My sobs subside and I dare to flicker my eyes open.
I am filled with consternation at the sight before me. A wolf with black fur resembling a flawlessly cut obsidian stone sits before me. Flecks of green litter it's large, golden glimmering eyes. It is the most beautiful creature I've ever seen.
I suck in a breath, almost sobbing but I feel the warmth of it's tongue upon my face. It licks my face and I close my eyes. When he stops I allow them to flicker open again. Only, instead of a wolf...a downright gorgeous man is crouched before me. His eyes are green and his pupils are huge. He's completely naked.
I swallow and I realize I haven't done that in a while. My throat is dry. He stares at me as if I am the most precious thing he's ever seen and I immediately feel drawn to him. I admire his body, which is impossibly toned to perfection. Abs ripple across his torso and tattoos of strange symbols trail down his arms. He is so beautiful.
"Deiranira," He whispers, his hands rise to my face. The soft touch causes flames to erupt upon the surface of my skin. He takes a gentle hold of my chin and examines my face. I yank myself backwards when he leans in with his eyes closed. I'm pretty sure this is the wolf who tore Drew to shreds.
His nostrils flare and he growls. I jump turning my head. He yanks my chin back to him. "Do you not remember me, my love?" He demands, and I stare at him as if he's lost his mind...which he obviously has. I mean, why hasn't he killed me and why does he think I'm his love?
I shudder when he smashes his lips into mines. I attempt to pull away but he wraps one arm around my waist and one around my head. The way our lips mesh together is almost too perfect and precise. I whimper when I feel his teeth nibbling on my bottom lip. The pleasure emitted from a kiss is astonishing me, but I don't want to stop.
When he pushes me backwards I can tell he doesn't either. My jacket is thrown to the side and I'm left in the skimpy but expensive red dress Iana forced me to buy.
Oh, my gosh. Iana is probably dead.
His eyes scan my body and his hands roam it.
"My favorite color, my love," He brings my hand to his lips, placing an electrifying kiss upon it. "Just like the day we met," He looks me in the eyes, and I take notice that they are blue..not green? "Fate has brought us together." I push his heavenly hands away from me.
"Get away from me." I demand, remembering that my friends are most likely dead. His eyes shift to the color of blood. But, they glow like molten lava.
Oh shoot, no don't get mad.
He stands and begins to approach me. Anger fills his eyes. I can't help but turn my head at the sight of an aroused naked man.
At least my last sight will be a perfect one...
