We went about are duties. Mom taking care of he garden and picking the ripe food and me feeding the chickens and collecting the eggs. We were luckier than most right now. Most people couldn't have anticipated that the Apocalypse was near, I didn't. I was just lucky enough to have a paranoid dad. He had been prepared for anything. He stocked up on canned foods, stuff that wouldn't go bad fast, and water bottle's. And weapons. Lot's and lot's of weapons. I smiled to myself sadly. I missed him. So much. I wish he was here. He would know what to do. He could make the tough decisions and do the things that needed to be done. He wouldn't have been scared every minute of every day, like I was.... I was scared I would fail him. Fail my mom and Eddy. That I couln't keep them safe, when it came down to it. I would try though. I would try my hardest to help and survive. Like he would do.

"Honey. Are you okay?" My mother asked. I realized i was smiling and staring at nothing. I must look completely stupid!

"I'm fine mom, um, were almost out of chicken feed so I'm gonna go down the street and see if I can't find some." I said and put the almost empty bag back in the shed.

"Please don't. Sweetheart it will be dark in a couple hours." She asked.

"I'll be fine. I've been down the road a million times in the last week." It was the truth. I had explored the house's in all my spare time. Killed a lot of zombies down there too.

"If your not back in an hour, i'm coming to get you. I'm serious, one hour!" She said in her 'i'm in charge' voice.

"Okay mom. I'll be back in an hour." I promised then grabbed my sword from the back porch and headed down the road. When I think about life now, I think how different it is then all the movie's and book's about the zombie Apocalypse. In those storys the hero always talks about some life lesson they learned and how they became so much stronger and got through everything and it was fine. But that's bullshit.

The Apocalypse doesn't make anyone stronger, it makes them scared. And there's no lesson to be learned except we need a better military or smarter scientists. There's nothing to be done and life isn't better and everything won't be fine. I don't think we'll make it to the end. What is few and far between survivors going to accomplish against a world full of zombies? Nothing. I just wish i could live before we all die. I should check up on my friends and see if there even alive. But i'm to chicken. I really hope they did. Poor Derek! Sweet, dumb, football playing Derek. There's no way he could have survived. I kinda miss him though. I know he's my boyfriend, and i should miss him like crazy and be searching for him but I just couldn't bring myself to care beyond friends. We were only together because it was just how things were spose to be. I was head cheerleader and he was captain of the football team. Just kinda worked. I never questioned it until the Apocalypse.

"grr," I was pulled from my thoughts of the past by the sound of a few zombies. Good thing too because i was about to walk by Mr. Robins house, which was where i was gonna check. There were a few zombies walking around and thank god they hadn't noticed me! I hurried to the porch of Mr. Robins house and tried the door handle but the door wouldn't budge! I shoved it a little but it still wouldn't move! I saw a little girl turn towards the sound and i stood absolutely still, praying she wouldn't notice the sound of my racing heart. At last she looked away and i threw all my weight into the door and fell through. I slammed the door shut again and locked it, knowing the loud banging sound would attract the zombies outside.

I let out a sigh and leaned against the door to catch my breath. Okay i just need to grab the feed and get back home. I walked straight down the dark hallway towards the living room. I had been here a few times with dad so i knew where to go. I rounded the corner and couldn't help but scream!

Samantha, Mr. Robins 6 year old granddaughter, was laying in a pool of blood surrounded by 3 zombies. I felt nauseous. The poor girl! I had babysat her only 3 weeks ago! She was so sweet and adorable. I got pulled from my sorrow when my head hit the floor. I noticed to soon that one of the zombies had lunged at me and was now trying to bite me. I put my arm against its neck to hold it off but the other zombies were getting up and there was no way i could take all of them on the ground. I tried to roll over but it was just to heavy!

"Ahh!" The stupid zombie just scratched my face and it was gushing blood! I heaved up and managed to flip us over to where I'm on top and grab my sword from the sheath. I stabbed him straight in the head and rolled over his body right as another zombie jumped. I stood up and sliced his head off. The last one was faster and my sword missed. He circled me, keeping just out of reach of the blade. He came at me but i pulled my sword between us just in time and pushed it away then cut off his head so he was dead for good.

I stood there trying to catch my breath but every breath i took i smelt rot and blood. I went to the back door, avoiding Samantha. The back yard was clear of zombies thank god and i quickly grabbed two bags of chicken feed and went back through the house. There was only one zombie out there now and it was a little ways away so i took a chance and ran down the road.
