Hey, I know it's been a long while but I'm here and alive so read!
Three years later
"Ginger! The nursery is under attack!" Michael's voice came from the walky talky clipped to my belt.
"Bastards. Alex come with me!" I called to the black haired ten year old girl fighting near me.
“Where are we headed?” She asked staking a rogue vamp.
“Their after the little ones.” I told her. She snarled. I smiled a bitter smile. Alex had seen to much death for someone as young as she. Losing her family at seven had made her protective of the orphans here and even though she was only ten no one messed with her children. We ran fighting around the back of the building. Alex screamed when she saw the broken windows. The rogue wolves and vamps turn top see us. I saw one laugh at the sight of two female wolves that hadn’t shifted running towards him, one ten the other seven-teen. But living with vampires and witches had taught us about fighting hand to hand in human form. They didn’t know what hit them. We kick serious ass clearing the area around the window.
“Kristie take the others to the spot in the hills.” I called to the oldest of the children still staying in the nursery. She was an eight year old brunet vamp who had lost her coven at four. A natural born leader, she was picked to lead the others when trouble came. The children ran passed the older ones helping this littler ones. Sara came running leading a group of fighters. The rogues, who had no problem fighting us, ran at the sight of ten odd fighters.
“Nice of you to show.” Alex called to Sara.
“You are lucky we came, kid.” The Vamp told her with a smirk.
“Stop talking and come on. We have to get to the others.” I told them glad they were here. “They headed to the hills.”
“Then lets go.” One of the fighters, a werewolf named Mike, said. Without another word we headed for the trees. The place in the hills where we were heading was a small man made cave we had made days after moving here last year.
“Shit.” I spat when we got there. The kids had made it there safe but they had been followed. The eldest, all about eight-seven only still in the nursery for things like these, held back almost two dozen rogue wolves and vamps with slings and sling shots the only weapons they knew how to use. A look from Sara was all I need to shift. Willow burst out taking control immediately. I heard the others join me and as a small pack we hit them hard on there right side the vamps coming up behind us. We had trained hard for this kind of thing and trusted each one of our number to have our backs. I saw Alex jump on the back of a wolf and mentally rolled my eyes. She was to young for this, I thought taking down a wolf before going after a Vamp. She shouldn’t have to be fighting. If she hadn’t killed a rogue at eight than maybe I would have said some thing but she had. She had suffered more that many and deserved the chance to take a piece out of the ones who had caused it. A rogue bit into my back leg and snapped my mind back into the fight. By the time it was just us there the sun had set. I shifted and headed in to the cave. I had fought and run with these people most for almost two years. They were my brothers and sisters in battle so yeah we had seen each other naked and at first it was a it uncomfortable but now after having treated injuries and having been treated where we had to not wear clothes and leaving our clothes in one spot and shifting back in another we got over it fast. Still I slipped into a light dress I had in the cave for moments like this when I got there. Alex sat next to me.
“Here.” She lifted her hand showing me the walky talky that must have been left in the pile of rags that had been my clothes.
“Thanks.” I hit the talk button. “Ginger here, M do you read me?” I asked.
“Loud and clear. Is Blondie there too?” Michael asked. I looked over to see Sara treating people with injuries.
“She is here and, as far as I can tell, in one piece.” I told him.
“And the others? Your team?” He asked now. Yeah, I though, find out about your lover first and then the rest of us.
“As far as I can tell we are all accounted for but I’ll have to do a roll call to be sure.” I told him doing a mental head count.
“Do that and stay there we’ll come to you with everything left.” His voice was grim. “Its passed time for us to move.”
“What happened M?” I asked him.
“They lit the place up.” The color drained from my face. Fire; number two way to kill vamps.
“Did everyone make it out?” I asked.
“No. We’ll talk latter.” And the talky went dead. I swallowed. They may have been vampires, I may have only known them for the past three years I may not have liked some of them and they may not have liked me but we had trusted each other. They has become my pack these past years I had their backs they had mine. “Alex, check that all of the children are here.” I told her standing straight.
“What’s up Megan?” Sara asked.
“Michael says to stay here that they will come for us and then we are moving out. For now lets make sure that none of use are seriously hurt. Sara will you take roll?” I asked. She nodded her head and started calling names. I went to the back of the cave and started taking inventory. We would have to go far and in the house had been burned we would be dangerously low on food. We had bars water bottles, stuff that wouldn’t spoil but it wouldn’t be enough. We’ll have to stop at a few corner stores and gas stations on our way where ever we were going. Sitting down I sighed. The only way left in south out of Canada. The only way was to go back for me.
“You aren’t going back. Not really.” Sara said sitting next to me. I just looked at her. “I know that’s what you’re thinking. You old Pack, your brother, mother, father.”
“I know.” I whispered.
“We’ll skirt around their territory-”
“That means going into the Red Wood territory and that can’t happen.” I cut her off. “You know as well as I do what happens to vamps there.” She shuddered and I felt a spear guilt.
“Than what do you suggest?” Her voice was hard, bitter.
“The main highway. It passes through the center of their territory but the pack house is near the boarder. If we don’t make many stops we can get in and out within a day.” I told her.
“You’ve thought about this for a while.” It was a statement.
“I knew we would have to pass through at least once at some point.” I told her softly. “It had to be sooner or later. I wish it had been later.”
“Don’t we all.” Michael spoke from behind us. Turning around I felt my blood run cold at the sight of him. His hair was sweat soaked his clothes burned his skin streaked with smoke. “Come on little sister grab you girl and get ready.” With that he picked up a crate and headed to the opening of the caves.
“Come on wolf girl.” Sara told me. “Let’s move out.”
So I know it's short but you'll get more soon if you want it. Let me know what you think.
Lots of Love,
Marie-Soleil
