While I closed my eyes waiting to hear more from Walkens, I then fall asleep for real. The next morning, I wake up to the smell of popcorn.
It smelt so good and my stomach was grumbling really hard. I got out of bed and followed the scent.
I walked to the door and pulled the wooden board off of it carefully. I put it back right behind me.
As the scent of the popcorn became stronger, it finally lead me to a store not so far from Walkens house.
Inside the store was a man popping popcorn in a small machine. It seems like there's a movie since many people are surrounding him in chairs, with a small TV sitting in front.
I push myself to the door of the store and open it gently. "Welcome to Popcorn Mania! How may I help you?" The man smiles to me.
I'm speechless, other then that, I really don't know why I came in. "Would you like to try samples of every popcorn?" The man asks me.
Just the thought of that made me drool, and so I happily nodded and he walked behind the counter. As I stood in front of the counter waiting patiently, I studied every kind of popcorn he had.
There was popcorn covered with caramel, cheddar popcorn, white cheddar popcorn, buttered popcorn, and many more.
This is a lucky day for me, I haven't eaten for at least a week now. I don't want to eat this alone, I'm sure Walkens and his wife want some.
The man gives me at least 3 pieces of popcorn in separate cups of each flavor. "Is it okay if I take all these samples you gave me?"
The man stares at a woman behind him and she nods. "Yes you may."
I grab all the cups in my arms and before I walked out, the man calls me back."Um son, may I ask what your name is?" He looks at me with so much sympathy. I had to process what he asked for awhile, "Don." I say.
The man smiles and motions me that I can leave. I walk out the store and into the alley where Walkens took me.
I run to the wooden board and took it off and I walk inside as I put the board back into place. I go back to the bed I was at and place every cup in a line on the pillow.
After I neatly place the cups in place, I walk to the room where Walkens was with his wife the day before. I see nothing but an empty floor.
I begin searching through the whole place and I come to a room. It has doors, so I just walk in. There is a cracked picture of Walkens family on a bare white wall.
I stare at it and Mrs. Walkens comes in, "Hey Don, you're up. Hungry?" She says as she holds a plate with a cup of hot water.
I nod and begin to slowly point to the picture on the wall, but only pointing to Walkens. "Oh Walkens? Well he is out looking for any possible jobs."
Looking for a job? I'm happy and yet a little confused. What do we need a job for, I thought this was all we needed in life.
I take a few steps towards my "bedroom," but then I suddenly remember about the popcorn. I turn my head around to see Mrs. Walkens looking at me.
I use a hand gesture that motions her to follow me. I keep walking towards the room and her footsteps are as loud as a gorilla.
She walks into the room and I point to the cups of popcorn that are on the pillow. "Did you get that for us?" She smiles.
"I got it for all of us," I slowly say. "Well aren't you special. How did you even manage to get this?"
I grab her arm to bring her to a window that shows the Popcorn Mania Shop. "Oh.. that place. Well that guy doesn't like me nor does he like Walkens." She looks at the floor.
