"I got the next one!", I screamed to my mom as I ran from the back of our bakery to help the impatient costumer. "What can I get for you today, ma'am", I asked out of breath. "Hold on I have a phone call.", she snapped while pulling out her phone.
We always get costumers like this. It's like they don't care we work all day and all night making food for them.
"Well, if you won't tell me what you want, I'm just gonna leave! I have to go back to the studio to sign your copies!", the women said into the phone. I could hear murmurs coming from the phone, but I couldn't make out what the person was saying. "My son is on his way, can you hold onto my card and let him pay with that. His name is Daniel.". We usually don't get very rich people coming to our small local bakery, but we are in Miami, big things happen here.
About 10 minutes later, the bell rang and I walked to the front. A boy was on his phone texting or something. He looked up and caught me staring at him. He must've thought I was waiting for his order, and he apologized and placed his order. "Oh I'm Daniel, my mother left her credit card here for me". I nodded and swiped his card. He, thanked me and headed toward the door. He stopped and turned around back to me. "What's your name?", he smiled and tilted his head a bit. "Uh, Sydney". I'm not sure why I'm nervous. He smiled again and asked me for my number. At first I hesitated it, but I gave in.
My shift ended a few hours later and while I was walking home, I got a text.
"Hey, it's Daniel"
I was shocked because I forgot I gave him my number. I mean, the only thing I know about him is that he likes his brownies with sprinkles.
It took me about five minutes to think of what I should respond with.
"Hi! What's up? Did you like your brownie??"
He responded back with a few laughing emojis.
We kept the conversation going and I learned a few things about him. He lives in Hollywood, Florida, his favorite food is well brownies, and he's also sings.
I told him a couple of things about me, but they obviously aren't as interesting as his facts. I told him how my family owns the bakery, which is why I'm 14 and working there and also how I'm homeschooled.
He had to go, so I decided to start my homework. Turns out my online teachers didn't assign any homework tonight, so I went on Netflix and watched a good old episode of Law and Order.
I fell asleep in the middle of probably my 7th episode, but woke up to a text.
"Hey, text me tomorrow. Let's hang out!"
It was from Daniel. I smiled and drifted back to sleep.
