The entire table's attention turned on me and my stomach churned with excitement. They were unaware that they had singlehandedly, with that small, simple action, built my stage.
"Sarah." I said, taking a bite out of my apple.
"Why were you incarcerated by the Blackbones?"
No creativity with the questions, I see.
"I wouldn't give him children," I answered simply.
He nodded. "Who are you?"
"I was his girlfriend."
"Why didn't he just kill you, then?" His attitude remained impassive.
Fair question. "He thought some time in the cell would give him some children."
"How?" He asked though I was sure he could imagine a few scenarios.
"He thought I was doing it on purpose. I guess he doesn't understand much of human biology." I looked up from my fruit and to him for the first time. He was unimpressed.
"The rumor about his obsession with one of the women must be true then." Someone said to my left but I didn't move my eyes from Oden's, he however left mine, and I could feel the man who had spoken straightening.
"And were you?" He challenged, his eyes back on mine.
"How could I?"
"Women have their ways."
I chuckled. "Not that many times, I would've been dead a long time ago if that was the case."
No one said anything for a while, probably finding themselves uncomfortable with the subject and I removed my eyes from Oden's to resume my breakfast. He didn't speak to me, nor anyone else but I knew better that to think this was over. Haze however smiled at me every time our eyes crossed.
Breakfast was over shortly after that. It seemed these men stuffed their stomachs rather than fed them. I could have eaten more but I had eaten enough fruit to last me a while.
My guards delivered me back to my room and no one came inside besides to leave me food and water. If there was something, they were was considerate. I had been on a cell for a long time so being by myself for a while was very much appreciated.
The sun hadn't even fallen down when I fell back asleep. It hadn't been easy to sleep in a cell full of strange men and so I had plenty of sleep to catch up on.
My body jerked awake with the sensation that I wasn't alone. No limbs beside my eyes moved and I spotted Oden sitting on the desk. The light from the window delineating him. He was very beautiful.
"Hello, Oden,"I said huskily, unmoving. Even for far away I could see his jaw clenching. He didn't enjoy me calling him by his name. He should be grateful I hadn't done it with his men present.
"If you were his, why did he put you in a cell filled with men?" He asked resuming our previous conversation.
"Maybe he wanted me to appreciate his care more," I answered, still laying down. "Or maybe he wanted to prove himself right by getting me pregnant, after all, there weren't much of those 'women's ways' things that I could do in there."
"And did you?"
Get raped, you mean? Have a child? "Nah," I said, smiling at him.
"Why did you try to escape?" He changed the subject, my dignity being, apparently, none of his concern.
"Why did you kidnap me?" I challenged. I was enjoying this and approving his stoic state.
