‼️IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE:‼️

If you don't know Itachi's truth, you don't want to read this. I don't want to spoil anything but if you don't know what I'm talking about or if you haven't gotten about halfway into Naruto Shippūden, you probably don't want to read this.

===================

You stood in a clearing of the woods just outside the village. You put your hands in your pockets and looked up at the sky above, watching the clouds roll bye slowly and listening to the chirping of the birds. Your family was always super strict about your training. Because of this, from a young age you would escape into the woods to try and get some alone time.

As a young ninja in the branch family of the Hyuga clan, you were always told by your parents to try and become the best you can possibly be to protect the head family. To you it was all bullshit. What was even the point of a branch and head family? You often wished you could escape it all. This was one of the reasons why you would go off by yourself in the woods. Simply existing in the peaceful scenery was always your favorite pass-time. You could even train a little if you wanted to. You would sometimes try to better your Byakugan out here. Just before your dad died he made you promise that you would help train your younger brother Neji. But as of recent years, he has grown to surpass you. At this age you were a Jounin and he was a Chunin. You knew that with his hard work and natural talent, he would surpass you as a Jounin soon enough. When you first realized this you trained day and night in an effort to keep that from happening. But during one of your late night walks in the forest, you came to except it. He was a better ninja than you, it was that simple. You could never change that fact so rather than attempting to, you elected to help him the most you can.

Instead of training so you could surpass your friends and family, you began training so you could help them.

You sat down on the ground in front of a tree in leaned your head against the bark. You closed your eyes and felt the peaceful breeze around you. It was moments like this that allowed you to reminisce on the past.

It was just another day of The Academy. You were a mere 10 years old. Your Sensei walked in and silenced the class before introducing the new kid.

"Today, we will be welcoming a new classmate! This is Itachi Uchiha, I'm leaving it to you all to help him feel welcomed. He may be younger than all of you but do not forget that he is in this class for a reason."

He was significantly shorter than everyone else and obviously quite a bit younger. He had dark hair that matched his unreadable dark eyes. You smiled to yourself. You thought about how cool he must be if he was younger but already in class with the rest of you.

That day you stopped him after school when everyone was starting to head home. You ran up to the quiet boy. "Hey, Itachi!" He looked up at you as you slowed your pace to match his. You were a good few inches taller than him given the age difference. "I'm y/n Hyuga! I know our families live in the same direction so I can walk you part of the way there. Of course, if you don't mind!"

He looked back down at the ground, watching his feet as the two of you walked. "I don't mind."

You smiled happily. "So, how old are you anyways?"

"6." He answered simply. Your eyes widened in shock. You knew he was younger but you didn't know he was that much younger.

"O-Oh. You must be a really good ninja if you're that far ahead of everyone else your age! Not that I would expect anything less from an Uchiha. Everyone in your clan is ridiculously powerful, right?" He shrugged. "Ya, I guess you could say that."
