The sound of the fireworks made my eardrums ring, instead of enjoying the view i was looking down at my feet. My dirty black & white vans at that. You know when you're in a uncomfortable situation you start to notice a bit more about yourself.. or even an object or person.
In my case, I noticed that I had a stain on my right shoe. A little bit to the left in the top corner, I don't know how long I'm gonna stare at this one spot but it's seeming to do the trick for me. He's just still talking, and I'm sitting here pretending to listen.
"Kaci" I look up. "Yes?" "You kinda zoned out on me." he chuckles, "yeah,i'm sorry.". This he that I'm talking to isn't my brother,or a friend but he's my ex.
I know it sounds bad but it's not that terrible, I'm just getting tired of him talking my ears off. "Kaci, are you listening to me?" "Yes jace." I say.
We're met with an awkward silence, and I'm debating with myself wether I should say how I feel or let it go. My cold hearted side is taking over my body like a ruthless disease and telling me to let it go, but my heart is fighting and she finally speaks for me.
"Jace" he looks at me, "do you remember the night we met?" I ask.

11 Months Earlier:
"Kaci, come on we're gonna be late to the movie!" my friend India says while grabbing my arm & practically yanking me.
"Omg India, I don't care about this stupid movie. I don't even wanna go." "Whatever, besides Dayton wants to see you & I promised I'd bring you since I'm going on a date with his friend." I roll my eyes disgusted while getting on the escalade.
"Be nice" she says while smiling at me.
India always sets me up with people that I don't know nor end up liking, but Dayton.. Gosh he's a different story. Let's just say that he gets around and is well known with females.
Dayton & I have been talking, well I wouldn't say talking.. more like associating for a few months. He's literally obsessed and it's just annoying at this point. I mean who would wanna be around someone that smells like pizza rolls all the time, not me.
We reach the top of the escalade and I'm greeted with the scent of popcorn. India runs to Josh almost knocking him over. She has a small body but it packs a lot of strength. I feel someone grab my waist from behind and pull me in for a hug.
"I missed you" I hear him say and I automatically know it's Dayton. I turn around & lean in for a hug but he tries to go in for a kiss. Definitely not happening, I weave him so fast.
"You don't wanna kiss me?" He asks smirking, I'm guessing I gave him a disgusted look because he quickly changed the subject. "Well we don't wanna be late to the movie so come on" , he grabs my hand and I let him lead in front. I get looks from India & josh and I just go along with it.
"Did you want popcorn?" Dayton asks, "No I-" "She'll love some" India answers for me.
Dayton looks at me for clarification, "I'm fine with none" I say and he nods. India rolls her eyes at me, but I'm not playing hard to get. I honestly do hate popcorn, I always tend to get the kernels stuck in my teeth.
We get in our seats and so far the movie is alright, I personally prefer books over movies because books always tell more than the movie, but I'm not complaining.
As the movie comes to the end Dayton tries reaching for my hand but I move it away & play it off as me clapping like everyone else in the movie theater. "That was a good movie!" I exclaim, "wasn't it?" I look at Dayton, he gives me a small smile & a nod yes. I know he likes me but I'm just not interested, he's just not the one for me.
As we walk out the theater Dayton moves past me and walks ahead of us until we can't see him in the distance anymore.
"You know he really likes you Kaci, just give him a chance." Josh says , "Yeah like he's not even that bad" India agrees. I stay silent until we reach outside, India ordered us an Uber back to her place but while we waited Dayton was far from me. I don't really know what to do, I'd rather just stay away from him for now. I thinks it's best for the both of us.
A couple minutes later our Uber pulls up and India tells Josh bye. Dayton just stares at me from a distance as I get into the car.
"Why didn't you say anything to him?" India asks, "It just wasn't the time." I say resting my head on the window. "Hm... okay" , I ignore her.
I'm just ready to lay my head on a pillow and pass out. Tonight was.. I don't even know how to describe it. These street lights are making me even more sleepy, I blink my eyes a couple more times and then all of a sudden.. I'm out.
