Prologue
Her hand lay palm down on the mattress, restful & still; dappled sunlight fell through the curtains and across the snow white sheets that covered her body. Fiery red hair fell in thick waves down over her bare shoulders, a river of rubies spilled on snow; he dared not touch the perfection in front of him.
The need to make sure she was real overpowered him though, and he ran a single finger down her pale arm, from shoulder to the tip of her middle finger; smooth pearly nails slightly bitten. Doubling back to her wrist he tried to count the dash of freckles there, like a loosely woven bracelet of light brown beads.
Eyes’ starving for more, his gaze travelled to the elegant curve of her neck, smooth and pale like the moon at it’s brightest. The graceful length of her jaw, her firm chin and full lips that laughed even in slumber.
“Hey,” a whisper slipped from her lips, pink and satiny as rose petals.
“Hey, you.” He whispered back. “Sleep well?”
“Marvellous.” Her vice was music, random and rushed, yet slow and calming like a whispered breeze. “What have you been doing?”
“Admiring you,” brushing the auburn waves from her shoulder so he could see her breast bones, the white sheet covering her breasts only accenting the pale roundness of them; he smiled, tracing her lines and dips. “Making sure you’re real.”
“Even now?” she asked, a smile tugging at her lips.
“Even now.” Pulling her naked body close, he ran his thumb over her lips “Happy anniversary, Red.”
Running her fingers through his platinum hair, Rose leaned in and whispered “Two years…two years with you made up for it all.”
“And may there be many more,” Scorp said, holding her close, cherishing every moment as they tumbled through him like water over stones, vivid and bright and precious as the woman he treasured above all else.
