When she stepped onto the marble door step, she realized what she had gotten herself into,
I mean, come on who has a marble door step, she thinks to herself trying to digest the butterflies hitting the wall of her stomach,
"You okay?" Warren asks her with a concerned look spread across his face,
"Better than ever," Raven smiled, "Why?"
"Well you look like you're dying inside, so I was just making sure,"
They sit for a moment longer, and he still hasn't rang the door bell, and right as he's about to, he turns to her once more,
"You d ok not have to be nervous, trust me they'll love you," he smiles at her,
"Okay," she feels at ease, just by the words that he's spoken to her, her butterflies slightly settle down, and Warren finally rings the door bell.
They sit for a second, under the moonlit trees of his childhood home, the front porch lot by a almost celestial like chandelier that only am extremely rich person would have on their front porch, she looks over at him, a simplistic grin across his face, not knowing whether it's because hes excited or just as nervous she is, she can't really tell anymore, as the dory opens she expects to see a man or woman whom she'd assume was his mother or father, but when the door opened she was once again struck with the, "Oh yeah, they're rich,", realization, as she saw a maid type woman instead of a motherly type woman,
"Miss, may I see your coat?" The maid asks kindly, with a smile plastered on her face, which Raven can't tell if it's fake or not,
"Oh it's okay, I can-,"
"Let her," a deep, mono-toned, maybe even fruity, voice demands from behind her, and as she turns to look, the butterflies reappear,
"Don't worry, she takes pleasure in her Job, " he smiles slightly, it's more like a smirk, "Don't you, Marianne?"She can tell this time that not only is the womans smile real, but that she truly believes in it when she says
"Yes sir,"Raven looks at him once again, her coat still around her arms, and the man reaches his hand out and helps it off of her, smiling kindly as if it's his pleasure to do so, and then hands it to Marianne,
"Can you take that for her, dearest?"
"Yes sir," Marianne's grin grows larger, "of course,"Raven stares at him, stunned, for a split second, then Warren appears in the corner of her eye, grabbing her hand as I'd jealous and pulling her to his side slightly,
"Raven, this is my Father, Greyson Meight," Warren introduces them,"Dad this is Raven,"
Greyson's smile fades into a stone faced look, staring her cold in the eyes, then he reaches his hand out to her,
"Nice to meet you, Raven," his face, still flat, "My son talks about you non stop, it's great to finally meet the one he wont shut up about,"She sits realizing and finally understanding, that's where she had heard the name before,
Meight Inc.
Her companies rival company."Greyson Meight?" She looks nervous, "As in Meight Inc.?"
She wonders how she didn't piece this together in all the time she'd known Warren, but the realizes that she never actually paid attention to the companies rivalry, nor anything else that they'd say,
"Yes, that's correct, why?""No reason,"
As she's walking into the dining room she see's a woman on the balcony, smoking, with an empty wine glass that has red wine remnants at the bottom, Raven stares a bit longer until Warren tells her,
"That's my mother,"
She looks at him shocked,
"Oh my goodness, I was staring wasn't I?"
"A bit,"
She stares at him, a "please tell me the truth" expression on her face,
"Okay so maybe you were staring a lot, but it's okay,"
"I'm sorry,"
"Its fine, she sure wouldn't care," Warren looks around to make sure that his father is either out of the kitchen or too far to hear, then continues whispering, "She cheated on my father, with another married man, he thought he could fix it but turns out two already broken hearts doesn't create a whole one,"She imagines what it would feel like to be in his shoes, living with a constant reminder of the unfaithfulness she had shown him,
"But hes fine now I believe, he tries to speak with her but she ignores him, she'll only say little things like, yes or no, or hi and goodbye, when she's in the mood,""No offense, but your mother sounds like the definition of heartless,"
"That's not at all offensive," he looks her in the eyes, with a sad smile, "me, my father and my brother know that already,"
Warren's father, Greyson, steps into the kitchen, Marianne at his side, he's smiling at her, waving a knife in the air like it isn't at all sharp, he starts cutting green onions and waving his empty hand at the other knives telling Marianne to grab one, and of course she does, his toned back bends over to cut the onions on the cutting board, she imagines what it would be like to actually talk to him with no one around, he smiled before they got introduced, what did that mean, but then again he is almost twice my age, she thought to herself, and snapped out of when she realized that he was looking at her too.
"Would you like to cut onions?"
Her eyes go wide,
"Oh never mind its rude to as-"
"No no, I will," she goes over to where Greyson leans on the counter top, his long arm pushes against the counter right next to the cutting board, his smile soft and almost non existent,
"Do you not know how to use a knife, sweetie?" He chuckles, his laugh, cuter than and puppy,
She doesn't say anything back, she doesnt respond, she just stares at him shockes, shocked by his beautiful face, or maybe his eyes, or his hair, or his muscles, but either way shes shocked,
"Here," he smiles, he reached over her grabbing the knife guide, a tool that would help her cut precisely, "maybe this could help you, hun,"The rosiness of her caramel colored cheeks turns a dark red, when she realizes that her called her sweetie and even hun, she couldn't even think, she couldn't even talk to him, all she could do is stare, so that's what she does, her head tilted up to his 6'7 stature, that was way taller than her own 5'9 stature, she smiles at him
"I.....I know how to use a knife," she laughs,
"Really? cause it seems like you dont even know how to speak," he giggles, covering her smile with his hand to hide his laughter,
"Are you laughing at me?"
He looks at her, her eyes sad,
"No, I'm laughing at what you're doing,"
She looks at him, in way that says, "that's the same thing,", then he continues,
"You're really.....funny," he smiles at her, making her heart pound, but then having her realize that shes here to meet him, and nothing else.
