“Hey, nerd.”
I winced, grabbed my bag out of my locker and slammed it shut, turning to face the speaker. Great. It was Alison Darling, the queen bee of my school’s it crowd, “The A-List”. Seriously, I found it kind of sad that they actually made up a name. But what was even sadder was that all their names started with A’s. Alison, Ashleigh, Addison. Excuse me while I just throw up in my mouth a little.
“Oi, freak, I was talking to you.”
“You know you’re really going to have to start coming up with more original names for me, seriously. Nerd? Freak? We’re not in Year Seven, anymore. And you sound like a Bogan.” I replied. I wasn’t fazed by the “A-List”. I guess it’s because I wasn’t like most girls my age who craved for acceptance. I liked being me.
“Like, whatever? What are you doing, anyway? Skipping class? What. A. Rebel.”
I showed her my pass. “Actually, I’m allowed to go. It’s the reading of my great aunt’s will.”
“Like I care.” She was about to walk away, before I stopped her.
“Are you really going to tell me that I shouldn’t be skipping school when you are?”
“Leave me alone, freak.” She stormed off.
I locked my locker and went downstairs, where I called for a taxi before stepping outside.

I knocked on the door of the attorney’s office, smoothing my brown hair. The door opened, and everyone was already there. My mum, uncle and grandma stood around a dark oak desk, where a slight man with mousy blonde hair and a moustache sat, with a thin sheet of paper. None of them looked particularly distressed. I suppose it was because Aunt Elise had only just appeared out of nowhere. No one had seen her for years, and grandma hadn't even told me she had a sister. My uncle raised his eyebrow at me standing by the door, and motioned for me to come in. I blushed, and went to stand with my mum. The attorney took one look at me and began to speak.
“Are we ready to begin?”
My grandma nodded solemnly.
“Okay. This is the last will and testament of Elise Grey of 10 Greene Avenue, West End in the state of Queensland.
“I appoint Susan Grey of 28 Willow Way, Greenbank to be Executrix of my Will and Trustee of my estate. If my trustee is unable or unwilling to act, or dies before my estate is distributed, I appoint Walter Grey to be Executor of my Will and Trustee of my estate.
“Subject to the payment of my debts, funeral and testamentary expenses and all probate and other duties payable in respect of my estate or in consequence of my death I give half each of everything I own to my nephew and niece, Walter and Mary Grey, except for a small portion for my niece’s daughter, Willa Grey, to attend The Hardwicke Academy for Refined Ladies and Gentlemen, all expenses paid.”
Crap.

As we were driving home, I couldn’t help but notice the smile on my mum’s face.
“Why are you smiling? We just had someone’s will read to us. Isn’t that supposed to be sad?” And I’m going to the ‘Hardwicke Academy for Snooty Ladies and Gentlemen,’ I added in my head.
“Well, I hardly knew Aunt Elise, so… Do you realise how much money she’s given us?”
I shook my head.
“‘Half of everything she owns.’ Willa, she was a billionaire!” My jaw dropped. But why didn’t she just give us the money, then I could choose which school I went to. There was nothing wrong with my old… well maybe there was, but ‘Hardwicke Academy’ was definitely going to be worse.
“But why us?”
“I guess we’re the only Greys left.”
Okay, I had to admit it, I was slightly happy that I was going to be a millionaire. Fine, more than slightly, but there was one thing that just wasn't right.
“I don’t wanna change schools.”
