Anita looked upon the little mouse, taking in it's features. The little mouse had light brown fur, like he was once white but had bathed in a bowl of dirt. He was tiny but seemed like he could easily bite and it would would hurt. She slowly, calmly placed her hand inside of the box, meaning to take the creature out. As her hand went in, the creature jumped on and seemed to enjoy the ride. Anita gently placed the little mouse onto the ground, wishing that Mother had let her keep the poor little thing.
As soon as the mouse's little feet hit the ground, he was off. But he wasn't running away from Anita, he seemed to be running in circles, as if he was trying to write something. Anita watched carfully and studied the little mouse's shaky steps and uneven letters. The first letter was definitely a "B", but Anita coiuldn't make out the second letter as well. She decided to wait for the mouse to finish. So Anita waited. And waited. And waited.
After about twenty minutes, the mouse had written out a word. Some letters were harder to make out than others, but Anita could interpret the horribly written word. The mouse had managed to spell out the word,"Branado." Anita gasped at the sight. She asked the mouse if that was his name, though she knew that he couldn't understand. Or could he? As far as Anita knew, a mouse had to understand human speech and letters to be able to write anything.
The little mouse seemed to jump with glee at the asking of that question. He started to run around, and Anita guessed that he was writing something. After a while, the mouse had written out, "yes," in the dirt. Anita's mouth flew open and her jaw nearly hit the floor. This mouse not only understood human speech. language, and writing, but was smart enough to know his name in english! Anita knew that this had to mean something and that Mother had to let Anita keep the little mouse now. So Anita and Branado set off to persuade Mother into letting Branado stay.
