"you need to stop going to the lake, the sirens will catch you" i was aware of the countless warnings my mother had given me, however there was just something about that girl, im not sure exactly what it was, but i seem to be lured in by it.
as i continued my walk towards the lake, i noticed the lovely breeze, it was blowing lightly enough to push a couple of leaves on the ground, along with blowing my hair in the same way. i hoped she was there, afterall, she had mentioned time after time that she loved how much a small breeze can effect things.
finally making it to the lake, i glanced at the water, which seemed to glitter as a result of the suns reflection, a truely beautiful sight. as i laid out the knitted blanket i had brought with me, i glanced at the water a couple of times, wondering if she would be watching. upon sitting down, i hid the small box i had brought behind my back, it would be a surprise for later.
suddenly, i heard a splash, and all of a sudden, i was the victim of said splash, which caused my eyes to shut. as i opened my eyes, i was greeted by a pleasant sight. her. i could have sworn that i felt my heart beat out of its chest as i laid my eyes upon her. "skye! you came back! i thought your mom didn't want you coming here?"
i let out a sigh, also while shaking my head. "lei, i've told you multiple times before, i don't care what my mother wants." lei smiled, before she splashed me again, i was a bit shocked, but i had gotten used to her doing so. "hey, why do you only splash me?" i questioned her, but doing so, i could've sworn she blushed.
"you're my only friend, well, only friend on the surface. sometimes i wish you could be in the water, it would be super nice to have my best friend with me.." my heart melted, literally. something was totally going on with me, and i think i knew what i was feeling.. i just couldn't make out what she was feeling.
"hey, you're spacing out again, what's up?" lei's energetic voice ringed through my ears as i noticed that she had taken her right hand out of the water and had begun to hold my hand. i could feel my body heat up from.. embarrassment..? or was it something else? "its nothing lei, i was just thinking"
"thinking 'bout what?" i opened my mouth to respond to her, but i couldn't say anything. "skye.. what's wrong? something's going on.." i still didn't say anything, i just tightened my grip on her hand. ".. dont make me get out of the water."
i looked up at her, still holding her hand with one hand. however with my empty hand, i grabbed the small box that i had hidden behind me, and held it out for her, i couldn't make eye contact with her, because my face was heating up, so it was probably a lovely shade of red. ".. open it..."
lei giggled, before she carely untied the pink ribbon and opened the box. there were a few things in the box, such as: a pink rose without thorns, a note, a handmade vanilla cupcake with coral icing, and a drawing of a pink heart with the words 'i love you' written in neat handwriting. upon seeing the contents of the box, lei looked up at me.
"is this a joke, or are you being serious..? " i could barely manage to get the words out, but i somehow managed to do so. "i-it isnt a joke.. i love you.. " i looked up, afraid that she would be disgusted or disappointed, however her face was filled with joy. she smiled at me, before saying something important. "i love you too, skye!"
all of a sudden, she pulled me towards her, and the next thing i knew, we were kissing. she pulled away first, before smiling at me. "thank you, skye.." i smiled back, her smile was contagious. "no problem, lei" afterwards, it went silent for a few moments, before lei spoke up. "wait... does that mean im your girlfriend?!" i simply giggled "of course you are, silly"
