The Beginning of everything
"Ashy, Ashy," I said. "Stop staring at me."
"Call me Ash, Jen! It sounds cool," Ashley Hanson, my overprotective friend grunted. "And no, I will not stop staring at you."
My name is Jenny Johnson. Ashley Hanson and Samantha Elson were my best friends and had been since the 1st grade.
Ash was the weirdest best friend in the entire universe. She was cool, kind, helpful, understanding and creative. But there was a little problem with her, she was way too overprotective. For those of you who think that friends couldn't be overprotective, one day, Ash almost called the police because I took too long in the bathroom. Yes. That is true. Thank heavens Sam was around.
Ash had curly brown hair, beautifully shaped hazel eyes, a perfect nose and smooth skin. She aced every class in school and made sure that everything she did was carried out perfectly. She was a perfectionist.
Sam, short for Samantha, really hated Ash showing her weird and overprotective attitude all day long. Sam was popular in school and got mostly good grades. Even though she was popular, she would never bail on me or Ash, but at the same time she would maintain a good friendship with her other friends.
Sam's parents never really cared what grades she got and what she did in school. They were really busy all the time, so Sam always complained that she didn't feel loved by anyone but me and Ash.
Sam had long, pure black, smooth, silky, and shiny hair. Her eyes were gorgeous, and her nose was perfectly shaped. She was very tall, taller than me and Ash.
I was a person who loved technology. I was updated on all the latest trends and had a blog, named, 'Jen's Updates', where I posted all the latest news from around the world and also talked about interesting events in my life or something I wanted to share. Ash and Sam were the people I talked about most in my blog. On my 13th birthday, because of my love for technology, Ash gifted me a red phone cover with my initials carved on it. Since then, I had always held that cover near and dear to my heart. I posted this too, on my blog.
We had the strongest friendship in the world.
This story began in mid-October when I went to Sam's house after school for a party. For the first time, Ash's mom and dad helped set up the party and prepare food. I'd never seen Ash so happy before! Ash and some other friends came over. The food was never better. How refreshing the thought was after a long day of boring school.
Sam and I enjoyed the party, went around, socialized with other people, when suddenly, Ash left the house. It was the strangest sight. How could Sam, the overprotective girl, have left her two best friends at a party without even telling them? I gestured Sam to come towards me. I told her that Ash left, and soon as I told her this, her eyes popped out.
"Seriously? My parents decide to help out with the party today, and I can't even enjoy it with my best friends?" Sam said, irritated and sad by Ash's ignorance.
"She has never done this before, where could she be going?" I said, a bit annoyed because this interrupted my first bite of pizza.
"Wanna go follow her? This is our chance to be spies like the kids in 'Spy kids.' You never know if a chance like this would come again," Sam said while she chewed her taco noisily. "And don't eat the tacos here. They are the worst I have ever eaten." Sam said looking at it with disgust as she stopped chewing.
I laughed. "Fine, but we'll come back soon, okay?"
"Mmkay." Sam said while she went around the room and wondered what to do with the rest of her taco.
We grabbed our jackets and snuck off from the party, because we didn't want our other friends to start interrogating us.
I hopped onto my bike, put my feet on the pedals and rushed off, following, or should I say, stalking Ash?
As we rode along the road, we tried to be as discreet as possible. Otherwise, if she sees us, she might lie about where she was going, in case she doesn't want us to know. We rode and rode and rode. Ash never stopped, she went on and on and on the long stretchy road. Sam and I were really bored. The only thing that our bodies were focused on doing was the pedalling of the of our bikes. There were only a few cars on the road.
"This is rude. How could she do this to us? Is she cross with us?" I said, breaking the silence.
"Huh?" Sam got back in the moment. "Nah! Don't worry. She does weird things all the time. She's a purple belt in karate, so we need not worry about her safety. Although it is a bit sad that I'm not there eating junk food at my own party." Sam said, playfully.
"Exactly! You know we could have been eating Doritos and chugging down punch right at this moment if we weren't wasting our time following Ash. Why did I ever agree to doing this?" I said loudly, frustrated.
"We aren't wasting our time, Jen!' Sam blurted out. I'm not at my own party and you're the one complaining. Why would Ash leave us like that? We are going to find out where she is going and what she is up to. You should be happy that she isn't overprotective anymore, but you're not! We are following her. So, we're gonna find out some answers. Now, please. Let this ride go quiet again.
Sam and I both faced the road together and gasped. Ash was nowhere to be seen.
