I knew that it was the right thing to do, letting myself go around Shane, letting him comfort me, but for some reason all that I could think about was Stephen and Sarah, and what Chris told me. I can't keep thinking about them, and I know that I shouldn't,  but if I didn't I don't believe that I would be able to let myself go around Shane. In fact I probably would have kicked him out by now, but since I have something to get off my chest, something to pull us closer, he is still here. This is all because of what happened between me and Stephen, and Chris is right, whether I like it or not it is just the way things turned out, and with every new sight of Shane, I am starting to like it a lot more now.

The thought was blown out of my head when I heard a car pull into the driveway, I jumped right up and looked at the time. " Wow time goes by so fast, I am nearly late for my own party.  Are you still staying or do you have things to do?" I asked turning back to Shane, he smiled a half smile.

" I will have to doublecheck my schedule for today, I have a girl that I was supposed to be hanging out with." I felt my heart drop for a second, but as if he knew what I was thinking, he added, " I'm kidding, the only girl that I am going to be hanging out with is you." I felt a wave of relief flood over me.

" Okay, well you can help me greet all of my family, besides I know someone who is dying to meet you." He raised an eyebrow. " Don't worry,  it is just my friend Peyton. She is harmless, as for my family, I apologize in advance." I held out my hand as he took it as we went down the stairs silently.

We managed to make it outside without getting noticed, just as I see a familiar car pull into my driveway. At first, I thought that it was my friend Ava, but then I remembered that she was out of state on vacation. The only other person that I knew of that had that same car was Stephen, and sure enough it was him and Sarah to step out of the car. I pulled Shane more towards the woods, hoping that they wouldn't see me. My hope soon faded when Sarah asked someone from my family where I went and they pointed towards this direction.

" Cat, we need to talk," Stephen said when he looked at Shane he continued, " who's this?"

" None of your concern, and I don't want to talk to you, get that through your thick skull. How many times are you going to keep bothering me? Oh and last time I checked, you weren't invited today so leave."

" Come on, two minutes, please?" By now, Sarah was already back by the car, of course my mom was over there talking to her, thankfully the one thing that I know that Sarah wouldn't do is talk about anything that has been happening. I figured that Stephen wouldn't go away unless I gave him the two minutes that he was asking for,  so I told Shane to keep track of time and to let me know when time was up.

" Okay, you have two minutes, what do you have to talk to me about?" I asked him.

"First, I want to know who he is." He pointed Shane who seemed to be having a good conversation with my brother. " Is he a replacement for me?"

" His name is Shane and he isn't a replacement, he is sweet and way better than you. Anything else?" He looked at me as if his heart broke with my comment, it made me feel good inside.

" I know that you don't mean that," he touched the side of my face, for a second I couldn't move, but I slapped his hand down.

" Do not touch me." I said loud enough so that people could hear, really so that Shane would, and as I had hoped he looked over and down at his watch. He tapped it, and I started to walk away from Stephen and he gripped my wrist hard, I felt the bruise forming on my arm.
