HOPE
The headquarters ends up being much larger than I originally imagined. It seems like the hunters have their own city right within these walls. There's two different cafeterias, a training area, dormitories, offices, and even a hospital wing.
I follow May through the halls as she leads be towards her boss's office. I'm slightly nervous, only for the fact that I know nothing about the person I'm about to meet. They could kill me on the spot. For once, though, luck seems to be on my side so I hope that isn't the case.
When we finally reach our destination, May turns to me before knocking on the door.
"Let me do the talking, please," she says and I nod in return. It'll give me a chance to study exactly who her boss is. The more I can figure out about this place and the strange people in it, the better I can protect myself.
May knocks on the large door in front of us and I hear a gruff voice on the other side grant us permission to enter. Standing tall and proud, I follow May into the room.
"Greg, I have someone I think you'd be interested in meeting," May greets, stepping aside to allow me room next to her. I step up and nod my head at the balding man behind the desk.
Despite the fact he's on the older end of the age spectrum, Greg doesn't look like someone I would mess with. His brown hair has started to recede, but it only makes his grey eyes stand out even more. He has a large build but seems to be on the shorter side. By the way his eyes narrow at me, I can tell he means business.
"And what would I want with a pureblood?" He asks, his eyes finally leaving me to turn to May. She smirks, knowing the bomb she's about to drop.
"She's not just a pureblood. She's a crossbreed," May announces. Greg's eyes widen momentarily before he catches his surprise. Standing from his seat, I notice I was right about his height. He only falls a few inches taller than me, making him no more than 5' 7".
"A crossbreed? Haven't seen one of these in years. How did you find her?" Greg questions, stepping over to study me. He gets closer than I'd like, but I stand rooted in my spot, not showing any signs of discomfort or weakness.
"She's a newbie. Was wondering around town like a human. She came from the palace, though," May adds, increasing Greg's interest. This time, he doesn't mask his surprise.
"A royal crossbreed? Never thought I'd see the day. So why'd you bring her here?" He continues to study me as he speaks. I'm starting to grow uncomfortable under his gaze, but I still don't move. I am a vampire. If things take a turn, I could kill them both in a second.
"She offered us information in return for helping her find Jonathan Casper," May informs him. At this, Greg bursts out in laughter. I rear back slightly, confused as to what is happening.
"Of course that fool would have his own people coming after him!" He exclaims between bouts of laughter. Finally calming down, he shakes his head and stands up straight again.
"What is he to you? I'm guessing he screwed you over somehow," Greg finally addresses me. I smirk before talking. Where to even begin...
"Jonathan Casper is my father. He wants to use me against the palace. He killed my fiance, turned me, killed my brother, and still got away. I want him dead," I state, using my best royal voice. Strong and demanding so they know that I mean business.
"You just keep getting more interesting by the second. Tell me, though, why should we trust a crossbreed coming from the palace?" Greg inquires, narrowing his eyes again. I sigh. I'm sick of playing the whole trust game. In the end, no one ever trusts anyone, so why put on the rouse that they do? It's just a matter of who betrays who first.
